When Should I take SAT/ACT? You should take the ACT and/or SAT in the spring of your junior year. If you want or need to improve your scores, you can then retake these tests in the fall of your senior year. All colleges accept both the ACT and SAT scores; therefore, you can take either test. Since admission and scholarship opportunities are linked to these scores, the higher the score, the more opportunities you may have. While some students choose to take one of the tests, others choose to take both to see which one they do better on.
