Attendance was down from previous conferences following a trend lead by the government sequestration, but the symposium was generally considered successful. Several of the Tennessee Valley Chapter members were in attendance and many provided pivotal support. TVC member who supported the Symposium were: Conference Chair... Annual ISSS Awards to Tennessee Valley Chapter The Engineer of the Year Award was presented to Ken Rose. The Engineer of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual member of the Society who has made significant contributions to system safety through the development of engineering methods, standards or designs that have improved the safety of operation or use of systems of products. Don Swallom was awarded the Professional Development Award. The Professional Development Award is the highest award presented by the Society. It is presented annually to an individual for sustained, significant achievement in the advancement of the system safety profession during the course of his or her career. Page 2 of 7

John Livingston was awarded the Educator of the Year Award, presented annually for outstanding achievement in, or contribution to, system safety education and the advancement of the state of knowledge in system safety. Pam Kniess received the President's Achievement Award from International System Safety Society President Bob Schmedake. The Award is presented annually for outstanding service to the Society or for special achievements in support of system safety. Page 3 of 7

Tom Pfitzer was elected to be a Fellow Member of the Society Local Chapter Awards are presented for: Educator of the Year, Engineer of the Year, and Manager of the Year. The chapters then submit these winners as candidates for the Society level awards. Be thinking of deserving individuals in our chapter for nomination next spring. Note: TVC was runner up for 2014 ISSS Chapter of the Year. Let s work a little harder and try to get the award this year. We need to hold more meetings. I.e., Vice President and Special Events Coordinator. Our next TVC meeting is currently scheduled for Nov 19th at SAIC. Dave West will lead his discussion of safety case and potential for future application in the USA. We are always looking for topics and presenters for our chapter meetings.
