Romanian translators problems and difficulties with the translation of official documents Research in this area aims at exploring, through empirical and theoretical methods, the sociocultural dimension of the problems and difficulties of professional translators with the official documents for personal use translated from English, French, and German into Romanian in order to identify their causes and conditioning. The research will result in: explanations of problems and difficulties in terms of social and/cultural factors; a methodological model combining sociological methods with linguistic methods; inventories of pragmatic, textual and linguistic problems. Translation as Intercultural and Interpersonal Communication This research aims at: describing linguistic and sociological conditions for communication mediation discovering whether translation relates two cultures and thus diminishes their differences or whether, on the contrary, it highlights these differences. Translation as Process Research in this area focuses on the identification and analysis of salient source text features for translation purposes. The research will result in the creation of a pragmatic model for the identification and analysis of salient information in texts and in a translation method based on this model. Special attention is given to the journalistic and didactic discourses. The analyses are based on a corpus of printed press texts (journalistic discourse) and tape recordings (didactic discourse).

Delia Tanase-Robescu E-mail: delia.robescu@cls.upt.ro Researches in FOREIGN LANGUAGES TEACHING Analysis of interculturality Research in this area aims at the analysis of the cultural differences, along with the intercultural competence and the sociolinguistic competence, based on different cultural situations. The teaching of culture can be regarded as leading to a sociocultural competence, to certain sociocultural skills or to an appropriate sociocultural behaviour. In teaching a foreign language from this perspective, the cultural differences can play one of the main roles Intercultural competence, sociolinguistic competence, socio-cultural competence, skills and behaviour, communication strategies, cultural diversity - Defining the socio-cultural competence and skills, and the conversational skills; - Identifying teaching methods for developing the socio-cultural competence.
