A LEVELS (2 years) & OPTIONS 2019 Quick guide Between four to six GCSE grade 6 GCSEs depending on the A Levels you choose. Science A Levels requires six grade 6 GCSEs Humanities A levels require four grade 6 GCSEs Check each A Level on the subject-specific entry criteria. English Language grade 6 for A Levels. Maths must be a grade 4 minimum but often grade 5 or 6 & even 7 is required for some subjects. BTEC NATIONAL IN APPLED SCIENCE (Bio-medicine) Equivalent to 2 A-Levels and will gain access to a wide range of science degrees. Combine with another A Level or BTEC in IT or Art. What you combine it with is the issue so you might not need four grade 6s. Students MUST choose one other science, Maths or Psychology. You cannot choose ONE science only. 6 6 Plus 6 in Geography/History or Sociology 6 6 6 (Chemistry) or 66 (Combined Science) Students are strongly advised to study Maths A-Level if you choose Chemistry 6 7 7 in Maths We look for strength in Maths and sciences 6 7 You ought to be studying A-Level Mathematics with Economics. Otherwise choose Business A-level 6 4 6 in English Language 6 4 6 in English Language as well as Literature You need 6 in English Language. You need 6 & 6 in both English Language and Literature. We are looking at GCSEs which show a consistent strength in writing & evidence you enjoy reading novels independently. 6 4 6 6 in French 6 6 6 6 in Geography You need to enjoy both physical and human geography sides 6 4 6 6 in German 6 5 6 6 in History 6 7 7 7 in Maths 2

OUR BTEC NATIONALS PROVISION 2019 Progress to university and apprenticeships BTEC NATIONALS ARE A WELL-ESTABLISHED ROUTE TO UNIVERSITY Universities and employers have recognised the value of BTEC Nationals for over thirty years. Since A levels are no longer modular, the number of students choosing to study Btec Nationals has increased and is expected to rise even further over the next few years. Many of our BTEC students progress to highly competitive universities including the Russell Group Universities (top 24). Some go into degree apprenticeships, along with an increasing number of A level students, such as top companies such as Deloitte, KPMG and Capgemini. The rise in BTEC Nationals 2010-2020 Students on BTEC National courses are increasing these vocational courses are set to increase by 20%. The proportion taking A Levels is decreasing. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EXTENDED (worth 3 A 4 4 Key to this subject is your English Language grade and Maths however you can resit either Maths or English. This is worth three A Levels so you do not need any more courses APPLIED SCIENCE (worth 2 A Four grade 5s 5 5 5 & 5 in Combined Science Or 5s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics Key to this subject is your English Language grade and Maths You cannot resit either Maths or English if you choose Applied Science. This is worth two A Levels so you need one more course. With a grade 6 in Maths you can opt to take Mathematics A Level in with this package to allow progress to study engineering in the future. 6

- A LEVELS AND PROGRESS TO UNIVERSITY HUMANITIIES DEGREES - APPLIED SCIENCES AND PROGRESS TO UNIVERSITY SCIENCE DEGREES If you wish to take A Levels in essay-based subjects then you will study three AS Levels: AS Criminology + AS Sociology + AS Media These will help you improve your written work. After you receive the AS exam result, you can choose to continue with these courses and complete them after two years. Alternatively, if you show that you can achieve grade C or more on these courses, you can re-choose to start a range of essay-based A Levels such as Politics, Law, Philosophy and Ethics and Psychology, Business and English Literature. The entry criteria is the same for main offer of Btec Nationals, students need at least four grade 4 at GCSE including English and you can resit Maths if required. YEAR 1 in KHS YEAR 2 in KHS PROGRESS TO AS Sociology AS Criminology AS Media A Sociology A Criminology A Media DEGREE or APPRENTICESHIP YEAR 2 in KHS YEAR 3 in KHS PROGRESS TO Choose new A Levels or switch to BTEC National Complete second year of new courses DEGREE or APPRENTICESHIP Year 1 in KHS Btec National Applied Science (worth 2 A so combine with another A Level Engineers choose A Level Maths If you wish to take science or engineering then BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Sciences is the perfect route if you have grade 5s. For engineers, also choose A Year 2 in KHS Continue with second year of the BTEC (and Maths if you opted for it) PROGRESS TO Science degrees Engineering degrees Apprenticeships Level Maths - you need a 6 at GCSE Maths. 7

Mathematics English Language Mathematics English Language ACCESS TO SCIENCE DEGREES OVERALL ENTRY CRITERIA For bio-medical degrees BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science Worth 2 A Levels Four grade 5s For engineering add MATHEMATICS A Level As part of the Applied Science Pathway only Entry Requirements for BTEC APPLIED SCIENCE (for Bio-med and engineering) Grade required in the subject at GCSE 5 5 Biology 5 Chemistry 5 Physics 5 Or Combined Science 5,5 Additional information Requirements THIS IS A TWO YEAR COURSE For those interested in science and engineering careers BTEC National Diploma in APPLIED SCIENCE (Biomedicine) You need to show strength in sciences, maths and writing 6 For those interested in engineering add A Level Maths You need a 6 at GCSE Maths This A Level Maths set is only available for students on the BTEC Applied Science pathway. On the main A Level Pathway you need a 7 in Maths to study A Level. ACCESS HUMANITIES DEGREES OVERALL ENTRY CRITERIA AS Sociology AS Criminology AS Media Entry Requirements for Access to Humanitiies A Levels Grade required in the subject at GCSE Additional information Requirements THIS CAN BE EITHER A TWO YEAR COURSE OR A THREE YEAR COURSE 4 4 Year 1 Study 3 AS Levels (AS Sociology, AS Criminology & AS Media) Year 2 AS grade D, continue & finish at the end of Year 2 Or Year 2 & Year 3 AS grade C, option to restart with new humanities A-Levels AS grade E or less, restart with a BTEC National course 8
