Getting Started Socrative is an interactive assessment tool that works on computers, tablets, and smartphones. It is really easy to create an account, set up activities, and get students involved. This guide will show you how to get up and running in minutes. To begin, familiarize yourself with Socrative by clicking the Hands On demo and How it works section of the website.
Once you re ready to set up an account, click the big blue button! Enter your school email and password to create your account.
This part is optional, but only takes a few seconds. The next few pages give an Overview of features and how to give your students access to your activities. I m putting them on here so you can print them as a quick reference guide.
When you click Start here, you will be in the teacher page. Be sure to find your Room Number on this page. You may want to write it down for easy reference. Next, we will want to open up a second browser window/tab and go back to the Socrative homepage. We will basically have a teacher page and a student page open at the same time, sort of like the Hands On demo earlier. Your teacher page can be accessed at http://t.socrative.com In your second window, click Student Log In on the Socrative home page. Enter the Room number that is on your teacher page. This is what students will have to do every time you want them to participate. The student page can be accessed at http://m.socrative.com
Here is your teacher control panel. Activities under Single Question Activities are for quick assessments. For example, you could write the following statement on the board Describe how the needs of a plant and the needs of a person are alike. You could click Short Answer which would require students to type an answer to your question. Or, you could write a question Which of the following is not a basic need of a plant for survival? You could write 4 answer choices on the board and students and click on Multiple Choice. Students would have to respond by clicking the correct choice on their laptops, ipads, or Smartphones. Until you click an activity, students will see the following:
When you click Multiple Choice, students will see the following screen: When you click True/False, students will see the following screen: When you click Short Answer, students will see the following screen:
When all students are finished, click End Activity to bring up a report. You will see the results of the assessment and be given the option to print, download, or export the report to Edmodo if you have a class account there. Quiz-Based Activities are designed to be multiple questions and take longer. You need to create a quiz to be able to assign one of these activities. To do so, click Manage Quizzes on your homepage.
Here you can make a quiz or import one from an Excel document. You can also manager quizzes you have already made. In addition, you can retrieve reports from previous quizzes! One Quiz-Based Activity you can assign is called a Space Race. Basically, it splits your students into teams and gives them a color. As students answer questions, you see which team is winning.
