2. Pumpkin Show Community Band E-Mail Notices and Staying Informed While an e-mail system is very useful, if you have much experience with one you will probably have found occasions where it is sometimes as unpredictable as any other form of communication. Sometimes e-mails can get electronically lost for days, not delivered at all, or delivered but not in the sequence in which they are sent. Plus, I have certainly on occasion been one of those people who have accidentally deleted messages that I had intended to save for reference. With that as the introduction, feel free to contact me if you are concerned that you might have missed a communication so that you may not have the latest information on some Band event, you might have accidentally deleted a message with information that you wanted to keep, etc. Since I keep an electronic record of the messages I send, I can easily: Let you know the dates and content of messages that had been sent, Resend any that message that had already been sent, and Find whatever specific info you are after and resend that as well. 3. British Style Brass Bands in Columbus, and The Brass Arts Festival of Columbus If you are not familiar, Columbus actually has several British style Brass Bands. When you say this, a lot of people will think of The Brass Band of Columbus, but that is only one of the many in the Columbus area. First of all, if you are not familiar with the instrumentation of a British style Brass Band, here is a web page (with some sub-pages) from the Brass Band of Columbus that explains the instrumentation difference between that type of band and the typical community band. And how their music is also historically written differently than it is for the typical community band. http://www.brassbandofcolumbus.org/about_bbc/brass_band/index.htm For the last several years, these bands have gotten together to do what has
evolved into a FREE show called the Brass Arts Festival. The show typically lasts several hours, and for the last couple years, they have had groups performing in at least two venues at the same time. The 2015 Brass Arts Festival will be held in June. This webs site has the information for the 2105 Festival, as well as some of the names of the Columbus area Brass Bands who typically perform there. : http://www.centralohiobrass.org/obaf.htm#cup For this festival, many of the bands do VERY visual shows (think Drum Corps International show, or football bands, but performing on a stage). Other groups are often more sedate in their music presentations. If you are not familiar with some of these groups, the Brass Arts Festival is a great way to get to know them, and listen to some really interesting band arrangements that utilize their different instrumentation. In fact, here is a link to a YouTube video of a Salvation Army Brass Band playing a neat song called Light Walk that shows off this different instrumentation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3ibeu-zswq 4. Ohio Christian University Musical Events As many of you are aware, the Ohio Christian University hosts a number of unique musical events, to include sponsoring concerts by visiting musicians and bands, as well as concerts and recitals from its own students and faculty. In case you haven t found that part of the OCU web site that lists their music events, I have listed it below. However, since information gets added regularly, you might want to get in the habit of checking it often in order to stay up to date on their activities. http://www.ohiochristian.edu/music/music-events-spring-2015 They already have several interesting events lined up for Spring 2015. 5.
