Community Service Challenge Once again we are excited to challenge every 4-H club to collect food items for those in need in our area. Donations will go to St. John s Food Pantry, pet food for a local rescue shelter; and pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Summertime is a crucial time for these organizations to receive donations and they need our help. As 4-Hers, we are here to serve and help meet the needs of those in our community. As an incentive, the 4-H clubs who collect the most amount of food (measured by weight per club member) will receive pizza gift certificates. We will collect all items on Thursday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the Home Ec Building prior to the Junior Leader meeting at 8:00p.m. immediately following the Color Run. Take the 4-H Club Challenge & help those in need!
PAGE 2 Tippecanoe Tabloid Preparing for the County Fair Project Manuals Be sure that you have picked up the necessary project manual for your project(s) at the Extension Office and have completed the necessary activities prior to the county fair. Refer to the Tippecanoe County 4-H Handbook for details specific to your project. The Handbook is available for purchase at the Extension Office, and you can find it for free on the Tippecanoe County 4-H website at http://tinyurl.com/tippyhandbook All posters, display boxes, notebooks, entomology boxes and educational displays exhibited at the 4-H Fair must use a special nametag provided by the Extension Office. Mini 4-Hers may also use these tags on their projects. Project Nametags are not needed for Arts & Crafts, Foods, or Sewing. These tags are 3x3 inches and are to be mounted on the lower right hand corner on the front of posters and display boxes. They should also be affixed onto the front of notebooks, displays, etc. Plan accordingly when making your posters and projects. These nametags are available at the Extension Office or from your 4-H Leaders. Arts & Crafts Info Cards Arts & Crafts will need an info card that you will fill out and bring with you to judging. This card is available in the Extension Office or on our website at: http://tinyurl.com/projectinfocard Green Folders Green Folders are due Thursday, July 23 by 5pm to your club s bin located inside the Dairy Barn. Each member should include, in their folder, two copies of their record of achievement (white card) and one copy of a record sheet for each project. These forms serve as record of completion for each project. Refer to the General Rule and Information section of the Handbook for guidance on filling out your achievement cards. Project record sheets are available at the Extension Office or on the County 4-H website http://tinyurl.com/tippy4-hprojects.
June/July 2015 PAGE 3 Rule Reminder! Participation: Attendance and participation at 4-H meetings is highly encouraged as a part of the overall 4-H experience. However, attendance or participation at club meetings is not required for project completion. In order to be considered for any champion or reserve champion in a project, members must attend 3 meetings and/or workshops. These 3 meetings and/or workshops MUST BE COMPLETED prior to June 30 th. Leaders/superintendents are responsible for turning in attendance lists by July 1. Rewarding 4-H members is encouraged. Local clubs may establish goals for attendance, exhibits, completion, etc. to meet the criteria established for awards, trips, activities or recognition as long as they do not conflict with stated county, area/or state policies. Clarification #1- a total of 3 meetings and/or workshops are required for any and all champions and reserve champions. It is NOT 3 meetings and/or workshops for each project. Clarification #2 meetings and workshops are defined as club meetings and project workshops (projects listed on enrollment form) sponsored and advertised by Tippecanoe County 4-H. Clarification #3 members may attend any club meeting, not just theirs. Please sign in and note what club you do belong. You MAY NOT attend workshops that have special liability releases such as shooting sports, dogs and horse and pony workshops, unless you are enrolled in those projects. The Home & Family Arts Open Show at the Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair provides an opportunity for anyone to enter an exhibit or product. Informational booklets are available at the Extension Office. Poultry Project Since there will be no live poultry exhibited at the fair this year 4-H ers may contact Superintendent Cindy Bull at cbull68@gmail.com for ideas for showing and exhibiting poultry this year.

We will draw at 6:00 sharp! Join us, your friends and club members for a fun start to the Tippecanoe 4-H Fair! We are in need of adult volunteers, as well as older 4-H members, who can help with registration and with showering the runners with the 4-H green powder. If you can help, please contact Dee at dnicley@purdue.edu, or Jo at nickell@purdue.edu.
PAGE 6 Tippecanoe Tabloid Congratulations to Allison and Adrienne Tolen whose design appears on the cover of this year s 4-H Handbook. Why not use your drawing skills to design a cover for next year s Handbook? All county 4-Hers are encouraged to submit a drawing that fits on a legalsize sheet of white paper, 8 1/2 x 14. The text should include 2016 Tippecanoe County 4-H Handbook with your small signature somewhere on the drawing. The rest of the design is left up to you. Mount the picture on a piece of stiff cardboard and on the back include your name, address, 4-H club, and age. Drawings are due to the 4-H Office on the fairgrounds by Friday, July 24 at 7:00p.m. State 4-H Band Congratulations to Emily Hill, Alexandra Hicks, Alec Ward and Austin White, who have been selected to the 2014 State 4-H Band! June/July 2015 PAGE 7 Junior Leader Jabber Work Assignments The online sign up for work assignments ended on June 12th. A copy of all the work assignments will be sent to you. If you need to change your work assignment because of a conflict, you must try to switch with another Junior Leader. We will not try to find replacements for you. Once you have made changes, YOU MUST let Shelby know of those changes in order to receive credit for your work assignment. No changes may be made after July 1 because judging will have started. If you would like to help out by working an additional work assignment or pop stand shift please contact Shelby Ward (ward128@purdue.edu) or Jo Nickell (nickell@purdue.edu) or 474-0793. We can always use more help! Last Junior Leader Meeting & Officer Elections Please plan to attend the last Junior Leader meeting for the 4-H year on Thursday, June 24, at 8 p.m. in the Home Ec Building.
