Tardiness Penalty: Yu are expected t be n time fr each class meeting. Any student wh arrives after attendance has been taken (within the first 10 minutes f class) will be cnsidered tardy. Any class time missed applies tward the 9-hur maximum allwance; therefre, excessive tardiness culd affect yur status in the curse. Plicies, Requirements, and Expectatins (Cntinued) Midterm: This is a midterm assessment f yur ability t speak and understand written and spken English at the lw-intermediate level. The exam cvers any and all tpics frm the first half f the semester. Further, the Midterm Exam fllws a similar frmat t the final exam, s students will be prepared at the end f the semester when the time cmes. ESL 3B/C Final Exam: This is a final assessment f yur ability t speak and understand written and spken English at the lw-intermediate level. The exam will be everything that was cvered thrughut the 2 nd half f the semester. The exam invlves tw main prtins: cmprehensin (reading & listening) and prductin (speaking & vcabulary). Dictinary Plicy: Students may use an English dictinary and/r translatin dictinary during lectures, discussins, grup wrk, and frmal class prjects. Hwever, electrnic dictinaries with internet capability are nt permitted during frmal in-class assignments and/r prjects. Academic Hnesty and Student Cnduct Plicy: Cheating in any frm is abslutely unacceptable in this curse. Students caught cheating will receive academic penalties (zer pints n the assignment/test in questin, up t and including a failing grade fr the curse), disciplinary actin, and/r a referral t the Dean f Student Affairs. The instructr has the right t assign seats, mve students, and/r penalize students fr any inapprpriate behavir during the semester. Electrnic devices are never permitted during tests, exams, r assignments. Cell Phne Plicy: Cell phnes are allwed during designated class activities nly. The instructr will indicate when students are allwed t use their cell phnes. During all ther times, cell phnes must be put away. This means yur cell phne must be in yur backpack, purse, r bag. It cannt be n yur desk r in yur pcket. Cell phnes cannt be used t send text messages fr persnal reasns during class time. Persnal phne calls must be minimized, and if abslutely necessary, be taken utside the rm. Classrm Expectatins: It is imprtant fr all students t participate in class. Our time tgether is valuable, and it is essential that we nly speak English when in the classrm. Speaking nly English during class will make the learning prcess mre effective. This is a requirement fr the curse, s please make sure t cmmunicate in English during class time. Practice is the key t successful language learning. Yu are expected t actively participate when yu are wrking in pairs r grups. It is als imprtant that we shw respect fr each ther in class.
