Building on Success Since its beginning in 1992, The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic has gained national recognition as one of the best organized and uniquely focused high school athletic events in the United States. 2013 will mark the 22nd anniversary of this colorful and highly popular event in Binghamton, New York. Over the years this tournament has featured outstanding teams such as Christ The King, Villa Angela St. Joseph, Gonzaga, Simon Gratz, Rice, St. Raymond s, St. Thomas Aquinas and Mt. Vernon, to name a few. The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic is more than just top caliber basketball it s an educational experience. The tournament is a project of the Broome County STOP-DWI Program and Mirabito Energy Products that uses basketball as a tool to create a unique and exciting learning experience for youth. Through involvement in the Mirabito STOP- DWI Holiday Classic, high school athletes are encouraged to become leaders in the effort to deal with alcohol and substance abuse in their schools and communities. The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic invites high school teams from across the United States to participate in this outstanding tournament. Major Features ~ One of the premier national invitational high school boys holiday basketball tournaments in the United States ~ Held each year from December 27-30. ~ 16 Team Tournament 8 Team National Division 3 games guaranteed Two 4 Team Regional Divisions (for local schools) 2 games guaranteed ~ Outstanding lodging and meal plan. Tournament Information Dates/Agenda Held annually on December 27-30 in Binghamton, New York. ~ December 27th - Team arrival, check-in, opening assembly program, Three Point/Slam Dunk, and coaches meeting. ~ December 28-30 - Tournament competition and educational seminars. Competition The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic consists of a sixteen team high school boys basketball tournament featuring an eight team national division and two four-team regional divisions (for regional teams only.) ~ Guarantee of 3 games in the eight team national division. ~ Guarantee of 2 games for regional teams in both regional divisions. ~ New York State Public High School Athletic Association and National High School Federation sanctioned event. ~ Tournament held at the Broome County Veteran s Memorial Arena a 5,500 seat capacity facility. ~ Slam dunk and three point shot competitions. Accommodations & Travel The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic provides the following to traveling national division teams: ~ Eight rooms per night for three nights. Teams in the championship game on December 30th are provided a fourth night s lodging. ~ Three meals per day for up to 20 members for three days of the tourney. All meals are buffet (all you can eat). ~ All traveling national division teams receive up to $1,500 reimbursement for travel expenses. Note: All lodging and meals are at one location and within walking distance to the Broome County Arena for your convenience! Tournament Activities/Mementos ~ Each participant receives a commemorative t-shirt, bag, water bottle and complete tournament program. ~ Excursions to local museums, planetariums, malls and cinemas are available. ~ VIP area for coaches, sponsors and local dignitaries. 6 www.bcstopdwi.com
Tournament Information Keynote Address & Education Seminars/Activities ~ No tournament in America offers the educational experience that is afforded athletes at the Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic Tournament. ~ Special education modules and team building sessions. ~ Breakfast seminars and workshops serve to motivate athletes to consider positive alternatives and healthy lifestyles in the area of substance abuse and traffic safety. Support Services The Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic provides the following: ~ Ground Transportation is provided to all teams during the tournament for travel to and from the Broome County Arena, practice sites and for social/recreation purposes, i.e. movies, local tours or shopping. ~ Video taping of games/team meeting rooms. All games are videotaped by a professional videographer. Team meeting rooms are available at the tournament hotel and are equipped with VCRs, monitors and chalk boards. ~ Team Ambassador. At least one, generally two adult hosts serve as the tournament s full time contact with each team. ~ Daily Laundry Service is provided by the tournament for cleaning game and practice uniforms. ~ Practice sites with set schedules. All teams will have ample access to practice sites with set practice times to accommodate team competition schedules. Transportation to and from sites is provided. ~ Sports medicine.
