Weekends at Wilsons By Lynsey Payne, Sophia Chaffey and Catherine Warren
Schedule On Friday school ends at 3:15. Weekend assembly is at 4:00, this is where you go and sign up for activities that take place over the weekend. Prep at the weekend is 6:45 to 8:30,this is where you do your study. On Saturday & Sunday you get up at 8:00 and go to breakfast at 8:30 in the dining hall. At weekends bed time for juniors is 9:15 and for seniors is at 10:30.
Art This takes place in the study area in the Preston Building for the first two sessions of activities. This relaxing but very enjoyable and pictures done here can be displayed around the school. Study This is can be done through out the day, where students can study quietly and finish off homework or and study for up coming exams or tests. Basketball Basketball takes place in the Weafer Hall for the first two sessions of activities. This is a fun activity where you can practise and improve skills. Self defence This takes place in the assembly hall for the first two sessions of activities. Self defence is very import for learning to defend your self. Aerobics This takes place in the assembly hall. It is fun but a very tiring activity!
Badminton This takes place in the Weafer Hall. We can play singles or in doubles. Chess This is the newest activity where a chess team is being formed to play in competitive games against other schools. Library This is for sixth years where they can study for their leaving cert.
Other weekend activities On Sundays, pupils are permitted to check their e-mails. Each pupil spends 40 minutes on the computer, and they are monitored by a member of staff. Pupils also watch films on Saturdays at 7.15 p.m. and at 2.30 p.m. on Sundays.
Special trips At weekends, pupils also go on trips outside of school: Liffey Valley is a shopping centre about an hour away from Wilsons. There are a lot of shops and a cinema. We go to the cinema in Mullingar as well. We go every second weekend, on Saturday evenings. Sometimes we also get the opportunity to go to Multyfarnham village on Sunday mornings.

Life of a boarder in Wilson s Hospital School Mornings start at 7:30am Pupils get ready for school and heads to breakfast Pupils then head back to their dormitories to clean their dorms before school.
School starts at 9:00 sharp with assembly After assembly pupils head straight to class. School ends at 3:55pm on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On a Wednesday school finishes at 2:35pm and on a Friday at 3:15pm School Day
After school boarding pupils go up to the dormitories to get changed or collect sports gear. Dorms are locked at 4:15pm and sports commence at 4:20pm. Sports finish at 5:25pm and dinner is on at 5:30pm. Afternoons
Food Dinner consists of meat and garnishes with a dessert. Pupils then return to their dormitories to shower after sports or to relax before prep.
Evenings Prep starts at 6:45pm sharp and finishes at 8:45pm For first, second and third years. For fourth, fifth and sixth years a second prep begins at 9:00pm and finishes at 10:00pm. After prep first, second and third years have until 9:15pm to socialise. Fourth, fifth and sixth years have until 10:30 to socialise with peers.
Bedtime Students are expected to be ready in bed by 11:00pm at lights out. Mobile phones are collected each night from pupils and are given back in the morning. Then the day restarts all over again for a pupil attending Wilson s Hospital School.
A Basic School Day in Wilson Hospital School

Daily Routine 8.50-9.00 morning assembly where we are given the days announcements and prayers are said. 9.00-11.00 we have 3 classes, which are each forty minutes long. 11.00-11.15 we have small break. 11.15-1.15 - we have another 3 classes. 1.15-1.55 We have our lunch where we can get hot lunches in the canteen.
1.55-3.55 we have another 3 classes. At 3.55 Our school day ends. Our daily classes include subjects; English, Irish, Maths, Languages; Spanish, German, French, Science, Religion, Home Economics, Business, Art, Technical Graphics, Geography, History, Music, P.E
Hockey Hockey at are school is a very popular sport for all the girls. We have teams from first year all the way up to sixth year. Every girl that plays for the school teams all have their hearts set for one goal and that is to win the finals at the end of the year. Games are usually played home or away depend on the draw.
Rock Climbing Wilson s is one of a few schools in Ireland that has a climbing wall. It s an outdoor activity so we can only use it when the weather is good because it gets quite slippy. It has three to four difficulties going from easy to very hard. The most enjoyable part is absailing back down.
Cricket. Cricket is run in the summer months because it is a fair weather sport. If it rains or if the light is bad then a match is often cancelled.
Sports day. Sports day is held on the last two days before school ends. On the Thursday night there is swimming races and on the Friday its more to do with team work for example : mini Olympics, and the three legged races. Sports day is an event that both the students and the teachers enjoy.
Basketball. Wilsons has been very successful in the basketball over the years. We have won the all Ireland championship with both our boys and girls teams at our level.
Interschool show jumping This is a new sport to our school which we have only had since November. The last team that we had was over ten years ago. In our first outing on the 6th our novice team came in 3rd place
Rugby This is a very popular sport in our school. Rugby runs all year round. Wilsons is very successful in this sport. We have two rugby pitches. There is a junior team and a senior team there is also a first year team.
Soccer Soccer is a popular sport in our school for boys and girls. There is training every week for this sport. There are many teams in our school. This is a very enjoyable sport for the player and the coaches.

In Wilson s there are a number of non sporting activities, these include: Gaisce Awards Debating/ Public Speaking Choir
Gaisce Gaisce is also known as The President s Award Anybody between the ages of 15 and 25 can take part There are three awards; bronze, silver and gold To receive an award you must : Take part in a sport Learn a new skill (such as typing or learning a musical instrument) Involve yourself in your community Finally you must go on an adventure/ research journey (such as canoeing, hiking) If you complete the gold award you are given your award by the President of Ireland
Debating/ Public Speaking At Wilson s Hospital School any student can get involved in debating. There are four members on each debating team as well as a chairperson, adjudicators and timekeepers. 2 students from the school won the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition. Wilson s is also currently involved in the Concern National Debates and The Mental Health Awareness Public Speaking Competition.
Choir The Choir is made up mostly of boarders and some day pupils. They sing in chapel on Sundays and hold a carol service each year. In December the choir sang on RTE, the national television channel. The Choir came fourth in a national choir competition last year.
