Suggested Activities for the month of October, November and December. 1. Homophone Dictionary Help your children to make a booklet in which they will write a pair of homophones with each letter of the alphabet. For eg, h: hair -hare, f: fair - fare. They will make sentences with both the words to show the difference in their meaning. 2. The English alphabet has 26 letters. The letters a,e,i,o,u are called vowels. The other letters are called consonants. Look at this proverb now: Practice make a man perfect. It has 23 letters of which 9 are vowels. 23-9 = 14 are consonants. Help your child to find 3 other proverbs and do the same. Let them count the number of letters (consonant and vowels) in the proverb. 3. 5. Repeated Addition. Rajma seeds or chick peas can be used for this activity. The child can be given instructions like make 4 groups with 2 chick peas in each group and let him or her find out how many chick peas are there in all? Allow the child to model the

story problem and write number sentences to find the answer. This can be repeated with different numbers. 6. Volume. Non-standard measurement will be used. Children can be asked to collect containers of different shapes and sizes in the house. For eg a glass, a cup, a bottle etc. They will estimate the amount of water that will be put in each container. Words like more, less; water level, surface etc. can be used in the vocabulary while making their observations on A4 sheet. 7. Length. Help your child in collecting 6 to 8 things of different lengths. They can then measure the length of each using a thread. They will compare the length of all these things by using words like smaller, shorter or longer etc. The child can record his or her observations on an A4 sheet in complete sentences. For e.g. the remote is smaller than the magazine. 8. Kindly assist your child in creating his/her own animal dictionary with colourful pictures of each animal. Help them by making them write one amazing fact for each. GRANDPARENT FORUM We are thankful to the grandfather of Sanskriti (P2-D) who agreed to spend quality time with our students and enlightened them with his valuable story telling session. As the grandfather Mr. Sharad Kumar Shrivastav is a writer and writes story books for children. He read out a beautiful self-written story about a little girl and her doll. It was a very interactive session. Students too came forward to tell stories. He also talked about how laziness affects our life negatively and that we should always be enthusiastic and energetic

while doing every activity. It was a meaningful session with the grandparent. It was a great learning experience for our students. Students showed a lot of interest and enthusiasm during the session and couldn t thank nanaji enough for coming and reading out his selfwritten stories. EXCURSION TO QUTUB MINAR 12.9.17 We at Gyan Bharati School focus on overall development of the students by helping them explore different arenas in various fields. While our purpose is essentially to educate, it can also be a fun bonding experience for everyone involved. In an effort to fulfil one such experience of travelling in a group, children of class P 2 were taken for an excursion to Qutub Minar(Mehrauli) on 12.9.2017 ( Tuesday). As a part of pre-activity, before children were taken for

the heritage view they were told about famous Indian historical monuments which are counted as the second tallest minar of India. It was constructed in 1192 by the Qutab-ud-din Aibak and completed later by his one of the successor named Iltutmish. Children were amazed to see the tall building of 73 metres having 379 steps or staircases from just an arm distance. The children were explained about the similar shapes as that of Qutub Minar. When children came back they drew Qutub Minar and also three similar shaped things. The children thoroughly enjoyed fun filled experience with their peers.
