In term one with the year 2/3, 3 /4 and 4/5 students, we investigated through materials and construction techniques how to make strong and stable structures. This term with the year 6/7 s we are investigating and recording city landscapes through using Sphero robotics. We also created and explored sphero golf courses. From our Principal Last Thursday, during Catholic Education Week, St Patrick's held an 'Open Morning'. A handful of parents gathered in the morning to visit all the classes to see contemporary teaching and learning in practice. In order for visitors to have a broad sense of what is offered at St Patrick's, each class had a different teaching and learning focus including Literacy Rotations, Science, Maths, History and Coding using Spheros. Parents were able to see children working collaboratively to think critically and problem solve. A comment from a couple of parents was, "I wish I was at school now." Monday June 18 th is a Pupil Free Day. This date was in the last newsletter and I hope that all parents are making alternative care arrangements for their children. If you are going to use the OSHC facility the school offers, it is important that you book this week. Recently I reviewed the Uniform Shop. It is important that any parents wishing to buy uniforms for their child(ren) must do so during Uniform Hours (8:30am-10:30am) or by appointment. The staff are not able to sell uniforms after this time as they need to prepare for their duties in the canteen and ensure lunch orders are made and out to the children on time. It is important that when a parent/carer is buying uniform items for their child, they take their child in to be fitted as the school has a no exchange or refund policy. Trying on the item ensures that the correct size is being purchased. Jacqui Terryschild (grandparent) kindly donates her time to alter uniforms. She has been inundated with work. I ask that you only use Jacqui if you are unable to do any alterations yourself. The only alterations Jacqui will be offering will be hems, fixing zips, sewing buttons and darning holes in jumpers. All future alterations will cost a gold coin donation to cover the cost of cotton etc. We invite all parents/carers to celebrate Community Prayer with us each Monday morning in the Church. Classes or the Prayer/Liturgy Group prepare a reverent celebration each week and it is a lovely way to begin our school week together as a community. Parents are also invited to attend our school assemblies which are held in the Mary Mercer Hall each fortnight on Tuesdays of even weeks from 1:30 pm. The School Disco is on Friday 29th June and tickets will go on sale soon. Ellen (our student Social Worker) has organised a Local Services Showcase for parents while the disco is on. We encourage all parents after dropping off their children to visit the Community Room and see the showcase.

From our aprim Thank you to all involved in the St Vincent De Paul Food Drive last week. We were thrilled with the number of food items donated by families and managed to collect over 600 items from the whole school. Sr Catherine was really pleased with our community s generosity and said that the donations will be gratefully accepted. School Disco Please make sure you have Friday 29 th June marked in your diaries for our annual St Patrick s School Disco. The disco will start at 6.30 and finish at 8. Tickets will be on sale soon and will cost $6.00. Only the parents who are on the organising committee are allowed to stay in the hall during the disco, however the Community Room will be open for parents to wait in and tea and coffee will be provided. There will also be a display of service organisations from our local area on show for you to look at. You might find some support services that could be of interest to you that you were previously unaware of. A big thank you to Ellen Harvey for organising and coordinating the Showcase. Sacraments Celebrations Students from the Sacramental program will soon receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. Please keep Katrina, Franceen, Harry, Zandy, Casie, Helen, Ivana, Nathaniel, Quan and Aaron in your prayers as they complete their preparation. Parents, please remember the practise tonight at St Margaret Mary s Church: 6.30pm if your child is attending Wednesday 20 th June s Confirmation and 7.30 if they will be attending Friday 22 nd June s Confirmation. Please bring your child s sponsors to the practise. Thank you. World Environment Day Each year World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 th. Our Monday prayer was focussed on this theme this week and we prayed for the strength to do all we can to heal our world and make choices that are good for the environment. We have the gifts and abilities to care for all creation and it is our responsibility to be aware of our practices and how they impact on the environment. Here are some simple ways we can all live more sustainably: Turn the lights off when we leave a room Don t leave the tap running when brushing our teeth Place all rubbish in correct bins Turn food scraps into compost Eat foods without wrappers and pack lunch foods in reusable containers (Nude Food) Turn laptops, computers off when they are not being used We pray for future generations, may they learn from the environmental damage, and be good stewards living simply and in harmony with all your creation. May we all listen to the Spirit guiding us to care for the world God has given us and show our appreciation by treating it with love and respect. Amen.

Spirit of Mary MacKillop award Congratulations to Katarina Novak-Stanko and Krishleen Kaur on receiving the Spirit of Mary MacKillop Award for volunteering their own time to support students from the JBLSC at playtime Well done girls! P & F News Our Last meeting was on the 22 nd May & we discussed, Disco & Feedback from Mother s Day fun - raising & more. We collected over 12,000 Coles vouchers. A wish list has been put together with Mrs Johnson. A big thankyou to Katherine Zamora- Alejo who collected, counted & is ordering for us. We look forward to receiving our new sports items including balls, soccer goal, relay batons & more. To Date the Parents & Friends have raised approx. $1,200 this year, apart from Sports equipment we are looking at purchasing STEM items as well, a wish list also has been put together from Mrs Edwards and we are working towards acquiring some of these items as soon as we have enough funds to do so. Our major fun-raiser is Our whole School Disco Friday 29 th June 6.30 pm - 8pm. Parents are now working hard towards another successful night. Our student voice group are giving us ideas on Music & theme. Tickets & more information will be available soon. Together we are also helping the Kids Matter team as they prepare the Community Room for The Well-Being Showcase, this will be on the same night as the Disco for parents to attend. There will be a showcase of some very important organisations within our community & a display of our children s wellbeing work. Free Tea, coffee & supper, all welcome. We are always looking for Volunteers and encourage you to be involved in the school community, even if it may be a couple times a year, every bit helps! If you would like to be on our email list or receive news regarding P & F or may have friends who would like to contribute to the school please do not hesitate to make contact with anyone below or leave details at the front office. Nicole Davis, Anne- Marie Platten, Katherine Zamora- Alejo Nicole_Davis@y7mail.com Ph 0415 801 674 Next Meeting Tuesday 26 th June, 9am in the community room, please join us!

Congratulations to Bill and Eileen Prior for receiving Mark Butler s Award for voluntary service. Bill and Eileen were nominated in appreciation of their generous dedication and commitment to St Patrick s School and helping out in so many different ways. We are blessed to have the volunteers we have at St Patrick s who give up their own time to help the students and families of our school.

Amen Anne-Marie Platten
