Key Points: 8 th Grade students will have 4 CORE CLASSES (including: Math, Science, Language Arts & Social Studies) and 3 elective periods. Elective periods allow students to take courses of interest or to get needed intervention/academic support opportunities Be sure to refer to the Middle School Program of Studies course descriptions for a detailed explanation of all the classes along with their required prerequisites. Intervention A number of intervention opportunities will be available for students based on State Testing data, STAR Scores, and/or teacher recommendation. Some of these intervention options may include: Math Extensions Academic Extensions Literacy Explorations (LEAP 8) Focus/Supported Studies Please note, these interventions are not typically scheduled by students/parents, rather, they are selected for students based on the academic need. Students may be placed in/removed from the Extensions courses throughout the year based on their current academic progress and need.

Intro to HERO Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester This course that earns 1 elective HS credits Project Hero is a course designed around the pillars of leadership.
Project Rock and Media Explorations Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester This is an introductory course for students who maybe interested in the Academy VIBE Program in high school or want to learn more about the music industry. Students need to have singing experience and/or experience with a musical instrument such as a guitar, drums, piano, etc. Students interested will also need to complete a multi-step application process.
Health Professionals Academy Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester This first course in the career field provides students an overview of the opportunities available in the healthcare industry. Students will learn fundamental skills in effective and safe patient care that can be applied across a person s lifespan. They will also be introduced to exercise science and sports medicine, the field of biomedical research and the importance of managing health information.

World Language Classes: Top 5 Things to Know: 1. WL study is NOT a HCSD graduation requirement! 2. For an HONORS diploma, Hilliard students need 3 credits of 1 language or 2 credits of 2 different languages 3. MOST colleges want students to have 2 credits of WL study 4. HCSD currently offers Spanish, French and Mandarin Chinese beginning in 8 th grade (& German beginning in High School) 5. Level 4 is taken for AP credit and Level 5 is Dual (HS. & College) Enrollment, earning college credit!
