INDUSTRY RELATIONS expand your global potential International Technical Exchange Programs engineering natural sciences computer science architecture mathematics agriculture biotechnology IAESTE United States

IAESTE OUR MISSION: Developing global skills in tomorrow s technical leaders What is IAESTE? IAESTE (I - ess - tay)... is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, a global organization established in 1948 at the Imperial College in London. For more than 50 years, IAESTE has continued to grow and now includes more than 80 member countries. Dedicated to providing international internships in technical and scientific disciplines, IAESTE has matched nearly 300,000 student interns with more than 100,000 employers worldwide. IAESTE in the United States Operating in this country since 1950, IAESTE United States expanded its operations in 1998 to focus on promoting its new mission of developing global skills in tomorrow s technical leaders. This goal is achieved by partnering with some of the best technical and scientific universities in the country, as well as by providing domestic and international conferences and leadership seminars for U.S. university students. IAESTE United States also continues to specialize in technical and scientific internships, bringing together world-class students with top-tier companies and research institutes. OPTION 1 OPTION 2 DISCOVER THE BENEFITS OF IAESTE UNITED STATES If your company, research institute, or laboratory is interested in benefiting from IAESTE United States services or in furthering the mission of developing global skills in tomorrow s technical leaders, you have several options. No matter what your particular interest, there is a way for you to become involved just review the three options listed inside this brochure and contact IAESTE United States if you have any questions. The IAESTE Placement Service matches a highly qualified international intern with your company, research institute, or laboratory. The IAESTE Visa Authorization Service provides the necessary paperwork to sponsor an international intern that you have already located. OPTION 3 Corporate Partnership is a new membership category designed to provide companies with specific benefits geared toward networking with members who possess a valuable combination of global and leadership skills from the country's best engineering and science universities.

The IAESTE Placement Service With the Placement Service, IAESTE United States uses its network of more than 80 international counterparts and annual applicant pool of 30,000 students to locate a highly qualified technical or scientific intern who meets your company s needs. In addition, for each international intern your company hosts, one U.S. student is able to intern abroad on a reciprocal internship. STEP 1 STEP 2 3 EASY STEPS During the fall, you determine your company s need for an intern, including qualifications and timeframe, by completing an Offer of Training form. In January, we will exchange your offer with one of our 80+ IAESTE counterparts, who will then nominate a highly qualified student candidate. STEP 3 During the spring, you accept or reject the candidate. If you accept, IAESTE United States finalizes all of the paperwork, including the J-1 visa authorization. option 1 It is easy to host an IAESTE intern! Simply visit our Web site and complete an Offer of Training form for the IAESTE Placement Service...www.iaesteunitedstates.org FEES Length of Program University Program Fee Industry Program Fee As a non-profit organization, IAESTE United States depends on program fees to offset the costs of administering programs. The per-intern fee includes health insurance, assuring that your international intern is insured for Up to Six Full Months Between Seven and 12 Months $600 $1200 $800 $1400 the duration of his/her program. In addition, all interns must be paid. On the Offer of Training form, you state the salary, which should cover living expenses; most IAESTE interns are paid between $8 and $12 per hour. THE LOCAL COMMITTEE ADVANTAGE IAESTE Local Committees are student-run groups located at 23 elite U.S. universities. These students provide several services for your intern, including: airport pickup locating housing Social Security card application cultural activities and more If there is a Local Committee in your area, you can take advantage of these benefits and focus solely on the internship. For a list of participating universities, see the back cover or visit www.iaesteunitedstates.org.

Facilitating exchanges with the world's brightest technical students and the best companies in the United States The IAESTE Visa Authorization Service This service is for companies or institutes that have located an international intern. IAESTE provides the necessary paperwork to sponsor your intern on a J-1 practical training visa. With this service, your company can benefit from: An internship lasting from three weeks to 18 months. An international intern who is fully insured and has the necessary visa and paperwork for practical training in the United States. Expert guidance to navigate and comply with J-1 visa regulations and SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), the Department of Homeland Security database that tracks all J, F, and M visa holders. Unlike the Placement Service, the Visa Authorization Service does not result in a reciprocal overseas internship for a U.S. university student. This service is designed for the company or research institute that wants to host a specific international intern. Length of Program Up to Six Full Months Between Seven and 18 Months Program Fee with Normal Processing* $1000 $2000 * The per-intern fee includes health insurance, tax information, phone card, and access to the IAESTE international intern community in the United States. SALARY option 2 All interns must be paid; as the host employer, you indicate the salary on the Offer of Training form, making sure it is sufficient to cover living expenses. The intern is responsible for all other costs, including travel, room, board, and transportation (unless otherwise stipulated on the Offer of Training form). APPLYING AND PROCESSING TIME Just like the IAESTE Placement Service, applying for the IAESTE Visa Authorization Service is simple. Visit the IAESTE United States Web site, www.iaesteunitedstates.org. Normal processing time is four to six weeks. If you need a faster solution, your company can expedite an application for an additional $500. Using the expedited service means a processing time of 10 business days! Please consider that the actual visa issuance at the U.S. Consulates can vary greatly and each consulate s processing time is influenced by factors not determined by IAESTE United States.
