There is power in Association As the new president and CEO of CUNA, I am pleased and honored to have the opportunity to work with credit unions and the Leagues to serve our 100 million credit union memberships. Your passion and efforts have helped us reach this impressive milestone and continue to drive the success of the movement. Like so many Americans, I am a proud credit union member. I chose my credit union because when it comes to my financial future, I want better choices, significant value and superb member service. Now, it is time for us to make sure all Americans understand that value and know that credit unions are their best choice. With my new opportunity as CUNA s leader, I have been challenged by the CUNA board to provide bold leadership in service to our system vision and enhance the strength of credit unions, Leagues and CUNA. Together, the Leagues and CUNA are your local and national advocate for removing barriers, creating awareness and fostering service excellence. Together, we are making a positive difference for credit unions and their members. Together, with your help, we are achieving our shared vision that Americans choose credit unions as their best financial partner. Jim Nussle President & CEO Credit Union National Association 1

OUR PRINCIPLES CUNA and the Leagues are committed to: Relying on member voice to drive our focus and action Taking a 360-degree approach to advocacy Providing resources and networking for all credit union positions and volunteers Credit unions celebrate a major milestone The credit union movement has reached the significant milestone of 100 million memberships. CUNA and the Leagues leveraged the celebration to raise awareness of credit unions in local and national media, with consumers and with lawmakers. Through a consumer website featuring members selfies and testimonials to capture what 100 million looks like, baseball games, food truck festivals and other celebrations, CUNA and the Leagues helped credit unions across America celebrate the achievement in many colorful ways. Protecting and promoting all credit unions through a local presence in all 50 states Positioning credit unions as the best financial partner for Americans 2 3

Removing Barriers CUNA and the Leagues deploy every strategy to optimize the credit union operating environment. Our approach to removing barriers is 360-degree advocacy. CUNA and the Leagues use our combined and coordinated connections, skills and resources to drive success. Advocating at the U.S. and all 50 state capitols Supporting CUfriendly political candidates Mobilizing grassroots to influence policymakers 360º advocacy Delivering support and resources to ease compliance Fighting regulatory burden Providing a presence on Capitol Hill through Credit Union House Asserting credit union interests in the courts Coordinating efforts with the Leagues 4 5

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE Creating Awareness Expanding awareness of credit unions in your local communities and nationally fuels the success of our shared vision. Filled with rich examples of member service, financial benefit and outreach efforts, the credit union story is easy to tell. Our job is to make sure more people hear it and connect with it. The Leagues and CUNA help credit unions take financial education to their members and potential members. From certifying financial counselors in collaboration with the National Credit Union Foundation, to offering reality fairs, microsites and train-the-trainer packages, we support this core cooperative principle. Internationally, we support the education efforts of the World Council of Credit Unions in its outreach to 200 million credit union members worldwide. USA SNAPSHOTS Credit unions winning wallets Credit union membership topped 100 million in June. In millions: MEDIA CUNA and the Leagues work together to spread our message through today s vast networks of media outlets to reach a complex mix of demographics. From connecting traditional national media outlets with credit union experts and information, to leveraging social media to generate more than 1.3 million messages to Congress we are making a difference. Younger members, employees and leaders are the future of credit unions. The Leagues and CUNA run asmarterchoice.org, which helps consumers, especially younger consumers, find credit unions. Events, such as National Youth Month, engage this generation and its fast-growing Hispanic segment. CUNA Councils, League Young Professionals programs, CUNA s support of Filene s Cooperative Trust, and well-resourced scholarships and training pave the way for bright young leaders to develop in the system. CUNA and the Leagues highlight credit union outreach stories ranging from food drives to CU4Kids support to community cash mobs and share them via Unite for Good and other outlets. Our efforts make it easy for credit unions to idea share, and curate a rich repository to tap when illustrating the credit union difference to the media, lawmakers and potential members. 47.4 100.1 98.4 84.9 65.5 27.4 1973 83 93 03 13 June 14 1 1 Estimate Source Credit Union National Association ANNE R.
