Column I Detailed Information about International Section of RDFZ 1. Introduction of RDFZ The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (commonly known in China as Renda Fuzhong, abbreviated to RDFZ) has a garden-style campus with a beautiful environment. It is now enjoying a high reputation both in China and abroad. Guided by the school philosophy Value Individuality, Discover Personal Potential, to Enhance Student Growth, to Promote National Prosperity, and to Promote the Progress of Humanity, and under the leadership of the principal Madam Liu Pengzhi, RDFZ has been constantly creating new brilliance. RDFZ is also a condensed world school with over 60 international teachers and more than 200 international students from over 20 different countries. The international students are studying in the same classes with the Chinese students, growing happily and reaching their primes. RDFZ has been carrying out exchange programs of various kinds and levels, and we have also attempted a great deal in curriculum renovation. Ever since September 2004, we have brought in successively the British A-LEVEL, IBDP and American AP courses, so as to practice the integration of the Chinese traditional education with the international education for setting up a curriculum system combining the essences and best practices in Chinese and international education. RDFZ has developed good relationships and partnerships with 46 schools all over the world. Among them there are quite a few world-class prestigious schools, such as Thomas Jefferson Science High School and Phillips Academy Andover in USA, Ruffles Academy and Ruffles High School for Girls in Singapore, Eton College and Wellington College in UK, Escola-Hamelin Laie International in Barcelona, Spain, Mahidol Wittayanusorn in Thailand. RDFZ has fostered many students with high academic achievements, outstanding all-rounded development, innovative spirit and practical ability. There have been more than one thousand students who have won gold or silver medals in competitions at international and national levels. Thus it has become a cradle for cultivating top creative talents in China. Each year, over 85% of the international graduates are admitted into such renowned universities as Beijing Uniersity, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China, the rest of the graduates are admitted into top-ranking overseas universities. For further information, please visit our website at: http://www.rdfz.cn. On the RDFZ campus, Chinese and international students and teachers organize and conduct rich and colorful activities. An education platform with the integration of Chinese and international education is being built to suit the need and development of both Chinese and international students.

Introduction of the International Section of RDFZ Approved by Beijing Municipal Government, the International Section of RDFZ started to recruit foreign students in 2002. Currently there are more than 200 foreign students from 24 countries at RDFZ, who are studying together with the Chinese students. The International Section of RDFZ offers the foreign students with two learning forms. One is the Language Training Course, and the other is the Regular Course (joining in the Chinese students class). Foreign students and Chinese students in our school live and study together, and they are divided into nearly 30 classes from grade 7 to grade 12. Further more, to satisfy the special needs of the foreign students, the International Section of RDFZ also arranges Chinese specific curriculums and additional lessons of other subjects for them, so that they can enjoy the high-quality educational resources with the Chinese students at RDFZ. When the International Section was established in 2002, we proposed the cultivating goals as All-round Development + Distinct Skills + Innovative Spirit + Moral Excellence. From then on, we have been creating a form of education to suit every student. For foreign students, we set the appropriate courses by combining the teaching plans for Chinese students with the characteristics of the foreign students. In addition, RDFZ provides more than 150 elective courses, from which the foreign students can choose according to their interests and capability. The International Section has established a set of complete and suitable management system for foreign students. In such a humane management system, each foreign student can enjoy better education and access to comprehensive development. We are confident that their life in the RDFZ will be unforgettable. 2. Training Objectives We strive to get the foreign students in our school to become proficient in Chinese language and Chinese culture, to build up a solid academic foundation, to have good health, and to achieve overall development with special skills, innovation, and morality, so that they can continue their study at first-class universities in China or other countries, and become the international peace envoy. 3. Academic Team

The school is fortunate to have a distinguished faculty possessing a strong commitment to both teaching and research. It is a highly motivated, innovative and professional team. Our teachers can always get opportunities to take part in all types of seminars and refresher courses, so that they can always exchange experience and explore new knowledge. 4. Teaching Facilities RDFZ has a garden-style campus with a reasonable layout and advanced facilities, including a Students' Activity Center, a Modern Academic Center, an Astronomy Dome, a Network Library and so on. It also has such art and sport facilities as a standard football field, illuminated basketball and volleyball courts, an in-door swimming pool, the Art Center and so on. In addition, there is a large restaurant with first-class facilities and a 30,000-square-meter student apartment building, which can provide the students with comfortable and convenient environment for learning and living. 5. The Semester Each school year is divided into two semesters with approximately 20 weeks in each. The first semester, Autumn Semester, is normally from September 1 to the middle or late January in the following year, with an afterward winter vacation of about 4 weeks. The second semester, Spring Semester, is from the middle or late February to early July, followed by a summer vacation of around 2 months. 6. Curriculum Considering the fact that the students of the International Section come from different countries, and their cultural backgrounds and academic levels are quite different from those of the Chinese students, their requirements for courses and options also differ. In order to help the foreign students make ultimate achievements, we have designed the curriculum by referring to the teaching plans for the Chinese students and combining the characteristics of the foreign students. The curriculum for Junior High students: Ideology and morality, Chinese, mathematics, English, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, PE, music, fine arts, labor technique, information technology.

The curriculum for Senior High students: Chinese, mathematics, English, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, PE, music, fine arts, labor technique, information technology. The elective course for both Junior and Senior High students: literary appreciation, astronomical observation, chemical self-experiment, dialectics of nature, website designing, English and American literature, English literature and so on. There are nine elective courses for language learning, including English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Korean and Italian, as well as 16 courses taught by foreign teachers. There are altogether 150 elective courses for the students to choose from. The International Section also organizes a variety of social activities, including tours to the Great Wall, the Imperial Palace, the Summer Palace, Beijing Hutong and some museums in Beijing. We also hold some activities, such as Christmas and New Year Parties, School Games, Foreign Students Talent Show, as well as Multi-culture Festival. All these activities are aimed for the foreign students to learn more and understand Chinese culture, help them learn to integrate, understand and respect other cultures. 7. The apartment provides triple-bedded and twin-bedded rooms with bathrooms, desks, cabinets and air-conditioning.
