Fun Facts: May and June The month of May is named after Maia, the oldest daughter of Atlas and Pleione in Greek mythology. A United States President has never died in the month of May, making it the only month with such a distinction. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. May, in the Roman calendar, was originally the third month of the year. However, when January and February were added, it became the fifth month. Similarly, June was originally the fourth month of the year in the original Roman calendar, but became the sixth when January and February were added. June was named after the wife of Jupiter, the Roman Goddess Juno.
