Our school clubs meet monthly. Pictured to the right is students in Mrs. Crawford s class, at Wyan-Pine Grove, enjoying the lesson on Embryology. This project teaches basic biology and life science to students, as they eagerly look forward to chicks hatching. SCHOOL CLUBS The January club meeting will focus on Good Vibrations. The science of sound will be investigated to develop a hypotheses on unseen items. Students will learn the process of how a sound is made and it s travel through different forms of matter. The North Laurel Middle School 4-H Club was in the giving spirit this Christmas season. Pictured above and to the left, students enjoyed making Christmas cards for the local nursing home. Residents greatly appreciated them. A big thanks to their leaders for making this happen! LAUREL COUNTY RABBIT CLUB Do you own a rabbit and want to meet other rabbit lovers? Do you want a rabbit and don t own one? Do you want to become a rabbit showman and teach your bunny tricks? Look no further! This club is looking for new members like you! Join us as we learn, share and teach you all things rabbit related. The Rabbit Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Laurel County Extension Office. Pictured are the Rabbit Club Officers: Emma McDonald-President, Emily Gilpin-Vice President, and Layn McDiffett-Secretary. LAUREL COUNTY POULTRY CLUB The Poultry Club meets every second Thursday of the month at 5:30 at the Laurel County Extension Office. We are looking for new members that may also have a chance to participate in our upcoming Poultry Show at the Laurel County Agriculture Fair this summer. Our next scheduled meeting is February 14th. LAUREL COUNTY HORSE CLUB The Horse Club is for youth, ages 9-18, and is designed to reach children that have a passion for horses, whether they own one or not. The program offers a variety of areas that the 4-Hers can be involved, learn valuable skills, and make friends for life. To participate in state level 4-H events, you must be a member of your county 4-H Horse Club and complete six hours of education through the club s certified volunteer leader. Meetings are the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Abbey s Stables.
LAUREL COUNTY SHARPSHOOTERS Our Shooting Sports Club will be having signups for new members soon! This club has different areas that students can sign up for, one or all: riflery, pistol, archery and shotgun. There is a minimal fee associated with this club for the year. They meet twice a month on Saturday and have an opportunity to compete at a district competition and state competition if they choose. LAUREL COUNTY LIVESTOCK CLUB Are you interested in livestock??? Our Livestock Club is preparing for the State Skillathon Contest. Our next meeting is January 28th at 6:00 p.m. at the Laurel County Extension Office. LAUREL COUNTY IMPAKT TEEN CLUB Influencing My Peers As A Ky Teen Club The IMPAKT Teen Club meets every third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Laurel County Extension Office. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18, we have a spot for you! Our next scheduled meeting is February 18th. CLUB MEETING/EVENT CANCELLATION POLICY: If school is cancelled in Laurel County the day of a 4-H Club Meeting and/or event, the 4-H meeting will be cancelled as well.
SCHOOL ENRICHMENT Dollars and Sense Students at Wyan-Pine Grove enjoyed the Dollar and Sense activity presented by Ashley Adkins, our 4-H Agent. Students are given play money and are encouraged to spend it wisely at each table, which represents needs for daily living. It takes several volunteers to make these projects happen. We appreciate all of our volunteers! Appalachian Days Appalachian Days was enjoyed by students, teachers and volunteers at Keavy Elementary. June 7-10, 2019 Do you enjoy swimming, boating, hiking, archery, zip line, arts & crafts? 4-H Camp offers all of this and so much more! We are now accepting applications for 4-H Summer Camp. If you live in Laurel County and are between the ages of 9 13, apply today! There is a $25 deposit required with each application to ensure that your place is held for camp. The remaining $150 will be due prior to camp. Scholarships are limited, so please apply as soon as possible. Sign up early and be entered to win an awesome prize. Feltner 4-H Camp Ag Tag Program Farmers of Laurel County have the opportunity to raise funds for Laurel County 4-H and FFA through the Kentucky Ag Tag Donation program. Since 2012, Kentucky farmers have the option to make a $10.00 voluntary donation when they purchase or renew their farm tags. Commissioner of Agriculture, Ryan Quarles, will again equally divide the amount raised among 4-H, FFA and Kentucky Proud. This donation helps grow strong leaders for tomorrow, advance agricultural education in Kentucky, and promote Kentucky farm products.
