Go to: http://mail.lakeland.cc.il.us for directions on how to login to your school email account. You MUST check your school email at least once a day. Proper Email Etiquette Is expected and required of all students. This means: Use an appropriate subject line to clearly identify what your email is about. Use proper capitalization and punctuation in your email communication. Type your full name, class name and class time at the bottom of your email so I know who you are. Do NOT type in ALL CAPS! all caps means you are SHOUTING and is very rude. Attendance Excellent attendance is required to do well in this course. If you are absent, you are completely responsible for all material covered and for all assignments given. Do NOT wait and ask what you missed after you return. Notify your instructor that you will miss class and be caught up BEFORE you return to class. Note: Student s missing 4 or more classes will be dropped from the class at the instructor s discretion. Due Dates/Late Work Assignments are due at the beginning of class time on the day designated. Late homework is NOT accepted. However, you have TWO Late Cards. Each card will allow you to turn in ONE assignment late with no penalty (see the description below). After your cards are used up, any assignment you attempt to turn in AFTER the start of class on the due date will receive a 0. Any late assignment MUST be brought to my office and turned in WITH a Late Card BEFORE you return to class! You CAN turn work in EARLY with no penalty if prior arrangements have been made with your teacher. Assignments will NOT be accepted through email. Physical printouts must be turned in.

Late Cards You will receive TWO Late Cards for this course. Each card allows you to turn in one assignment late with no penalty as long as the late assignment is turned in BEFORE the next assignment is due. Once your cards are used, late work will NOT be accepted for any reason. Use the cards wisely! If you do not need to use the cards during the semester, you can cash them in at the end of the semester for extra credit points. These cards are nontransferable and non-replaceable (see the card for specific details). Exams Exam dates are on your class schedule. The exams must be taken as scheduled unless prior arrangements have been made. If you miss an exam due to an extreme emergency, notify your instructor Immediately. There is an automatic 10% penalty for any missed exam. Honesty Copying the work of another student will result in disciplinary action such as dismissal from the course. Knowingly permitting your work to be copied will also result in disciplinary action - See the Student Handbook for further provisions. (this means do NOT print off your assignment and then print a second copy with someone else s name on it.) Outside Computer Time In order to become proficient with the materials covered in this course, you will need to spend additional time using the computer outside of class to practice and to complete assignments. The amount of time spent working outside of class will have a great impact on your grade so plan your time accordingly. Classroom Protocol Typing or clicking the mouse while the instructor is talking is RUDE and disruptive to other students. Refrain from this rude behavior. In-Class Exercises & Quizzes Periodically, quizzes may be given at the beginning of the class to reward prompt attendance and preparation for class. Missed quizzes cannot be made up for any reason. In addition, you may periodically be given in-class exercises to complete during class time. In-class exercises cannot be made up for any reason. Homework Assignments Homework assignments are DUE at the BEGINNING of class. That means they MUST be printed, stapled and otherwise ready to hand in and/or electronically submitted BEFORE class starts. If the assignment is not ready to hand in before class starts, it is considered late and will NOT be accepted, so plan your time accordingly. Assignment Guidelines The following guidelines MUST be followed when handing in homework assignments. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of 10% for the assignment. Type your name, class time, and the exercise name/ number in the header. Check that there are NO typographical errors. Type all assignments unless your instructor indicates otherwise. Print on 1 side of the paper only, and be sure your paper is 8 ½ by 11 in size. Staple multiple page assignments in the correct order, right side up, in the upper left hand corner BEFORE you come to class Course Evaluation Distribution of Grade Your final course grade will be determined by the total number of points you earn during the semester. The sum of the points you earn divided by the total points possible will determine each student s percentage grade. The grading scale for this course is: 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 0-59% = F Marcy Satterwhite --Practical Software Applications Syllabus Page 2
