1 0 T H J A N 2 0 1 9 THE WEEKLY NEWSLETTER The latest news and updates from the RGSGQ www.rgsgq.com RGS Dates For Your Diary 17th January: Valpy Charity Day 20th 24th January: Science and Technology Week Happy New Year Welcome back to the RGS for the start of Term 2. I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday and are ready for a busy term which will once again be full of great activities and fun learning experiences. This week saw us welcome a number of new pupils to our school who have joined us at the start of Term 2. I was incredibly proud that many of our existing pupils were so welcoming towards their new friends which helped them settle into their new classes quickly and made the transition a smooth one. We have all been the new person at some point in our lives, and so it was lovely to see such awareness of this from our pupils who straight away supported the new children. 31st January: Year 2 Tigers Class Assembly

10TH JAN 2019 Looking ahead to the next few weeks, Science Week is on the horizon which will be followed by Book Week and Art Week after the February half term. Mr Temple and his PE team are in the process of planning Health Week which is always one of the highlights of the year and will include our annual sports days for Early Years and Key Stage 1 (Wednesday 6th February) and Key Stage 2 and 3 (Thursday 7th February). Parents are encouraged to come along to Sports Day (and get involved!), so get your running shoes ready! Pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils will be heading off on their residential trips to Oman and Sri Lanka and our House Captains are planning Charity Days for Valpy, Hamonde and Austen. Pupils will be taking to the stage for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Tigers class assemblies, and there will also be an Early Years production at the end of January! It is certainly going to be another busy term at the RGS!

10TH JAN 2019 House Update As we head towards the half way point of the school year the race for the House Championship is very close. The current points totals are: Austen : 2711 Hamonde : 2709 Valpy : 911 Powell : 1003 Nettles : 1698 Beckingham : 2038 On Thursday we held our termly House Assemblies which were led by our six Senior School House Captains. These assemblies help to develop a sense of community across each House which we feel is so important at the RGS. Pupils across the School were split into their Houses and then participated in games and activities with their friends from the same House. The House Captains also provided a review of the year so far and what to look forward to in the coming weeks.

10TH JAN 2019 Parents Coffee Morning It was lovely to welcome a large number of parents to our monthly coffee morning earlier this week. These events take place on the first Wednesday of every month during term time and provide parents with a great opportunity to meet other members of our community and learn more about the School. The next coffee morning will be on Wednesday 6th February so please put it in your diary.

10TH JAN 2019 Spring Fair Don t forget that our Spring Fair will be held on Saturday 2nd February 2019. This event is being organised by the Parents Association with support from the RGS, and it is sure to be one of the highlights of the academic year. The Spring Fair will provide an opportunity for our school community to gather together with the wider Doha community and enjoy a fun filled day of activities. There will be musical performances by RGS pupils, games, stalls, tasty food and lots of prizes to be won. It is sure to be a great day so please put the date in your diary! If you have any questions, please contact your parent class rep, a member of the Parents Association, or contact the school office. Have a great weekend. Mr. Downs Valpy Charity Day This year we have introduced a series of House Charity Days which are being planned and led by our Senior School House Captains. On Thursday 17th January Zofia (Year 8 Valpy House Captain) will be hosting Valpy Charity Day. Pupils are encouraged to bring in any items of good quality pre-loved clothes which will then be donated to charity. The clothing brought in will be placed in House piles and by the end of the day we will have a weigh in to discover which House has contributed the most, as well as how much we have collected together as a School. Zofia will contact everyone next week with more information but please have a look through your cupboards this weekend to see if you have any unwanted items. Thank you for your support.

10TH JAN 2019 Weekly Awards RGS Superstars NEach week RGS Superstar certificates are awarded to pupils from each class in the Primary School who have excelled in an area of school life during the week.
