Summary of the LCME Site Survey Findings November 14-17, 2010
Strengths The array of multiple research opportunities available to medical students throughout the curriculum is exemplary. The extensive curriculum evaluation and strategic planning process has been used to effectively monitor and improve student learning.
Strengths Course directors and the administration are exceptionally responsive to student feedback and concerns. There is an extensive array of pipeline programs aimed at increasing diversity in the student body. The administrative team is strong and has the support of the faculty.
Strengths The financial aid office is held in high regard by the medical students. This office offers a wide range of programs and services that significantly enhance the students understanding of financial aid matters. The basic science and clinical faculty are clearly dedicated to teaching excellence.
Average Number of Citations By Year of Survey Review 7.38 8.00 7.33 7.00 7.00 No. of Citations 05 06 06 07 07 08 08 09 09 10 *Medical School Preparation for LCME Accreditation, AAMC Annual Meeting, Nov. 2010
Areas of Non-Compliance The faculty does not have access to adequate teaching space to conduct optimal small group sessions. The affiliation agreement between the medical school and the VA Medical Center does not specify the responsibility for treatment and follow-up when a student is exposed to an environmental hazard. There is not a clear understanding among the clinical faculty leadership of the authority and responsibility of the dean regarding medical school matters.
Areas of Transition The school is currently conducting a search to appoint a permanent dean. Without additional classroom and small group space, the planned increase in class size may be problematic. Planning has begun for a reorganization of the curriculum. The University of Kentucky is currently conducting a search to appoint a new president.
