What will you learn during the workshops tours?, 75 minutes Learn how to use reliable reference sources for overviews, narrow broaden research topics, develop focused research topics. Bring your assignment prompt if you have one. This workshop is most useful in the early stages of your research process., 75 minutes Learn how to evaluate websites., 75 minutes Learn how to select library article databases, search for articles, distinguish between popular scholarly periodical articles, troubleshoot your searches. (Also available online. See the 2nd column on page 6 for more information.), 75 minutes Learn how to find evaluate books for academic research, locate books online in the library, troubleshoot your searches. (Also available online. See the 2nd column on page 6 for more information.), 30 minutes Learn about helpful resources like group study rooms, textbooks on reserve, research workshops, 24/7 online chat help, books & audiobooks, computers & printing, many other resources to support you. Where to go what to bring? The workshops are in room 238 in the Library. The tours start at the Library Information Desk. If you have a research assignment, bring it with you to the workshops. You usually have time to search for sources on your own research topics. Bring something to write with so you can complete the workshop activities. Things to Know About the Library Workshops Tours How to sign up how to print your proof of completion? See the last page for details. How to sign up for workshops get proof of completion is different for on-campus workshops/tours online workshops. Anything else to know? Drop-ins are welcome, but registering +online guarantees you a spot in the workshop/tour. See last page for instructions on signing up. If you miss 15 minutes or more of the workshop, you may not receive proof of completion. Prefer online learning options? The Finding & Evaluating the Finding & Evaluating workshops are available online. Information on how to enroll complete the online versions of these workshops is on the last page at mtsac.libguides.com/workshops/online. How to Sign Up for an ON-CAMPUS Workshop or Tour 1. Start at mtsac.libguides.com/workshops. 2. Click on Login to the online sign up form on the right. Sign Up Now 3. Use your portal username password to login. (Don t use your student ID number.) 4. Click on Make Appointment. Login to the online form to sign up. Stop by the library Information. 5. Select a reason for attending the workshop/tour & click Continue. 6. If you want to see all of the workshop/tour times, click on Find Appointments. If you want to see all of the times for a particular day of the week, select a day, then click on Find Appointments. If you want to find all of the times for a particular workshop or the tour, select the name of the workshop/tour, then click on Find Appointments. Day of Week All Monday Tuesday... Workshop Name Develop Evaluate Websites Find Evaluate 7. Click on the button with an asterisk * to select the workshop/tour. 8. Confirm your contact information. We only use this information if a workshop/tour needs to be cancelled, which doesn t happen often. 9. After clicking Continue, you will have the option to print your workshop/tour registration. You do not need to bring this with you to the workshop/tour. How to Print Proof of Completion for On-Campus Workshops Repeat steps #1-#3 above, then click on the View History button. You will see a list of activities that you have signed up for through this online system. You should see the date, time, name of the workshop, Yes for the workshop that you completed. This is your proof of completion. If you see Not Marked, the instructor has not yet recorded participation for your session. If you see No Show, you didn t come, didn t successfully complete the workshop activities, or you missed too much of the workshop. How to Take an ONLINE Workshop There are two workshops available online: 1) Finding & Evaluating, 2) Finding & Evaluating. 1. Start at mtsac.libguides.com/workshops/online. 2. On the right side of the page, click on the name of the workshop that you want to take. Take an Online Workshop Finding & Evaluating click here to enroll in this workshop. Finding & Evaluating click here to enroll in this workshop. 3. Login with your Mt. SAC portal username password when prompted. 4. Click on the Enroll in Course button. 5. Click on the Go to the Course button. This will take you to the online workshop. 6. Watch the short orientation video on the online workshop s homepage get started. How to Print Proof of Completion for Online Workshops After you complete a module, you will need to pass a short quiz to move forward. Once you complete all of the workshop s modules, you will be able to access the workshop s short assignment. The articles workshop will ask you to find 2 articles on your topic. The books workshop will ask you to find 1 book on your topic. To receive proof of completion, you need to complete the workshop s assignment. Before you click Submit on the assignment, be sure to check the box next to send me a copy of my responses (on the assignment), write your email address, then click on the Submit button. Your proof of completion message will be sent to the email address that you write on the assignment form. If you don t check the send me a copy of my responses box provide an email address before clicking on the Submit button, you will not receive your proof of completion email message, your work will not be saved nor retrievable, we will all be very sad. If you have questions after you ve enrolled in an online workshop, click on Help on the left side of the online workshop in Canvas, then select Ask Your Instructor a Question. Be sure you ve selected the correct class or workshop so that your message goes to the right instructor. 6
