UNIVRSITY OF LINCOLN JOB DSCRIPTION JOB TITL DPARTMNT LOCATION Professor in Life Sciences School of Life Sciences Brayford Campus JOB NUMBR COS482 GRAD SMG DAT November 2017 RPORTS TO Head of School CONTXT The School of Life Sciences was formed in 2012 and is central to the University s strategy to build its STM provision. We have established an efficient and attractive portfolio of six core undergraduate programmes with increasing recruitment year on year. We plan to introduce a seventh programme in 2018-19. Four of our six programmes were ranked first nationally for student satisfaction in NSS 2015. This portfolio is complemented by a number of very successful research groups and increasing numbers of post-graduate research students. Our two submissions to RF 2014 (UOAs 3 and 6) both did exceptionally well, achieving top 10 rankings for outputs. Our 40 research-active academics are in 5 research groups spanning Animal Behaviour, Cognition and Welfare; Cancer and Ageing; Diabetes, Metabolism and Inflammation; volution and cology; and Microbiology and Biotechnology, with excellence in all areas (https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/home/lifesciences/research/). We would expect the postholder to complement and drive their own research in one of these areas, but would particularly welcome candidates with expertise in Cancer and Ageing and Microbiology and Biotechnology. Additional areas of potential interest include theoretical ecology and plant genomics. We moved into two refurbished buildings (Joseph Banks Laboratories and Minster House) in 2014, providing us with excellent laboratory facilities and a collegiate working environment. Overall, we are an ambitious and successful school with a clear vision to establish a top 40 profile in terms of both research and teaching.
