Committee Chairman Scott Heitland asked the IFCA Board Of Directors for input on increasing the number of Hall Of Fame Inductees to 4 rather than just 2. We will continue to present the Junior High Coaches Of The Year Plaques at the State Championship Games. Coaches Recognition For Years Of Service: Certificates have been prepared and mailed to those coaches for their years of service. All-State Selection: We have been approached by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association (IPSWA) about joining them to select the All-State Football Teams each fall. IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler informed the IFCA Board Of Directors that we have two choices.join IPSWA or do our own All-State Football Teams. Discussion followed and the Iowa Football Coaches Association Board Of Directors would like to pursue the opportunity to be involved with the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. Coach Winkler, Steve Milder, Don Anderson, Lyle Alumbaugh, Aundra Meeks, and Brian Wilken will meet with IPSWA and report back at the Iowa Football Coaches Association Summer Board Meeting. Kevin Bowman will take over as Committee Chairman. Membership: We are currently at 53%. 175 out of 331 High Schools, 10 Colleges, 1 Youth Program (Emmetsburg), and 6 Individuals (all Football Coaches). Ethics: Ok. Playoff Advisory: Discussed what was decided by the IAHSAA, what our future goals are, and our plan moving forward. We are under the new playoff format for the next two years. The Iowa Football Coaches Association Board Of Directors and the IFCA Playoff Advisory Committee both feel very strongly that we need more information and facts in regards to the Football, Football Participation Numbers, and the Playoffs. The Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association is helping us. We both believe that we need to send a survey out after Week #9 to all Athletic Directors and Head Football Coaches in regards to the number of Playoff Qualifiers and the number of Regular Season Games. We need 95-100 percent of Ahtletic Directors and Head Football Coaches to respond to provide us with the information and facts we need to present our plan again next year.

Academic All-State: Certificates were mailed out in late December with corrected certificates sent out in January. There will be a new online format next year for Academic All-State Nominations. The nomination form will be on the IFCA Website. Legislative Issues: Ok. Nothing has changed in regards to the Scholarship Rule. District Champions: Ok. Good turn-out at the State Championship Games by the Head Football Coaches who were being recognized as District Champions and Playoff Qualifiers. Public Relations: The Public Relations Committee is watching VERY carefully the development of laws in states across the country trying to ban tackle football. We have a contact that we are touching base with in the State Legislature each week to see what is being discussed among our state leaders. At this time, there is nothing to report. Scholarship: Forms have been emailed to all Head Football Coaches and email reminders have also been sent. All Scholarship Applications are due back by March 31st. Scholarship Applications will be accepted both by mail or through the IFCA Website. Discussion took place in regards to presenting the Scholarship Awards at the Shrine All- Star Football Game this summer or at the school of each recipient. Paul Patterson made a motion to present the Scholarship Awards at the school in the spring. Paul s motion was seconded by Scott Heitland. Motion carried. We are currently presenting one (1) $2000.00 Scholarship Award and four (4) $500.00 Scholarship Awards. The two (2) $500.00 Cheerleading Scholarships that we give will continue to be presented at the Shrine All-Star Football Game in July. Rules: Ok. Journal: The Iowa Football Coaches Association Journal is completed. Each school will receive one IFCA Journal with their paid IFCA Membership Dues for 2018. IFCA Journal Committee Chairman P.J. Hedrington presented Head Football Coach Curt Bladt a poster of the IFCA Journal Cover in recognition of Coach Bladt s 400th win as a Head Football Coach. Congratulations Coach Bladt! Winter Clinic: March 2nd and 3rd, 2018. We are still in need of help introducing speakers and help at the Registration Table. If you are able to help, you are asked to talk to Scott Heitland. Scott also reminded the Iowa Football Coaches Association Board Of Directors to visit the vendors during the IFCA Winter Clinic. Playoff Hospitality: Went well. IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler asked the IFCA Board Of Directors if the IFCA Playoff Hospitality Room was well attended enough for us to continue to provide this for our members. Discussion followed. No action was taken at this time.

Yearbook: The Iowa Football Coaches Association Yearbook will be late this year due to Football Redistricting. Each school will also receive an IFCA Yearbook with their paid membership. Lastly, IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler informed the IFCA Board Of Directors that next year will be Coach Winkler s last year of being in charge of the IFCA Yearbook. Coach Winkler said that this will enable the IFCA Board Of Directors one year to decide what they want to do in regards to the IFCA Yearbook and the continuation of this great publication. State Coach Of The Year: The IFCA State Coach Of The Year Awards will be presented tomorrow night March 2nd at the Hall Of Fame Banquet. Walt Fiegel Award: Bob Howard will be honored at the Hall Of Fame Awards Banquet on Friday evening March 2nd as this year s recipient of the Walt Fiegel Award. Congratulations Bob! Ed Thomas Award: The Ed Thomas Award Criteria and Nomination Forms were emailed out to all Head Football Coaches before Christmas. All nominations were to be submitted by February 15th, 2018. We have received 50+ nominations. We currently are in the process of getting the nominations/applications emailed out to the Ed Thomas Award Committee Members so they can begin the process of going through the nominations/applications and selecting the 2018 Iowa Football Coaches Association Ed Thomas Award Winners. IFCA Website: The new IFCA Website has been up and running since December 20th. IFCA Website Committee Chairman Scott Heitland informed the IFCA Board Of Directors that he is VERY excited about the new site and how it is going to help us communicate and promote the IFCA. Now that we are in full control, the amount of time it takes to have updates made and things posted has been cut down significantly. Some of the new features include: All old award winners are now on the website as an archive, all Hall Of Fame Members are posted on the website, IFCA Membership dues can be paid on the website and the deposits are then made directly into our accounts, each month a podcast with an IFCA Coach will be available, and IFCA Journal Articles will be posted on the website after the March IFCA Board Meeting. The IFCA being in complete control of the website has been a great change. It did cost some money up front, but IFCA Website Committee Chairman Scott Heitland believes that it will be money well spent and will pay big dividends in the long run. Mentoring: The Mentoring List is being updated and emails will be sent to everyone who has signed up to be a mentor.

IFCA Combine: All the details of the IFCA Combine are set. May 12th/May 26th are the two dates Locations: Orange City (May 26th), Council Bluffs (May 12th), Des Moines (May 26th), Cedar Rapids (May 26th), and Oskaloosa (May 12th) Cost: 60.00 includes all testing, combine shirt, and recruiting information for any parent attending The company (Premier) that will run the IFCA Combine for us will cost the Iowa Football Coaches Association $6000.00 for their services. We would need 120 kids to register for the IFCA Combine which is an average of 24 kids per site. The Iowa Football Coaches Association Board Of Directors does understand that the timing of this event does conflict with the spring sports. However, we are excited about the opportunity that this will create for kids, the positive buzz it will generate is exciting, and finally, the potential for financial gain by the IFCA is good as well. The testing, the recruiting seminar/presentation, and the on-the-field drills will all be done by the staff members from Premier. IFCA Combine Committee Chairman Scott Heitland and Aaron Shipley informed the IFCA Board Of Directors that the biggest hurdles that are left to overcome are: Getting kids registered (On-line registration will be ready within the next week), getting College Coaches to the sites, and t-shirts for all football players who register for the IFCA Combine. The Iowa Football Coaches Association Board Of Directors would like to see the sites of the IFCA Combine rotated each year, but only if those colleges and universities are members of the Iowa Football Coaches Association. Other Business: Iowa Football Coaches Wives Association The Iowa Football Coaches Association tried to form a Football Coaches Wives Association 23 years ago. The South Dakota Football Coaches Association has a Football Coaches Wives Association. Iowa Football Coaches Association Executive Secretary Ken Winkler will reach out to the South Dakota Football Coaches Association to see what their wives events are and report back to the IFCA Board Of Directors at the Summer Meeting. Iowa Football Coaches Association Retired Coaches Club IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler would like to start a Retired Coaches Club, but is going to need help in getting this started. IFCA Summer Board Of Directors Meeting Sunday June 3 rd at 12:00 PM at Prairie Meadows Hotel And Casino in Altoona. IFCA Shrine Game Board Meeting---Saturday July 21 st at 12:00 PM at Pepper s Bar And Grill in Cedar Falls. Championship Rings---The Championship Rings that the Iowa Football Coaches Association presents each year to each one of the State Championship Coaches will continue to be made by Jostens. Another company has approached us, but it is a general consensus that the IFCA Board Of Directors is happy with Jostens and does not want to make a change.

IFCA Winter Board Meeting---IFCA Executive Secretary Ken Winkler asked the IFCA Board Of Directors if having the IFCA Board Of Directors Winter Meeting on Thursday before the IFCA Clinic begins on Friday worked okay. The majority of the IFCA Board Of Directors felt this worked out very well and suggested that we continue to have our IFCA Winter Board Meeting on the Thursday night before the IFCA Clinic begins. National High School Football Coaches Alliance---It was recommended by the IFCA Board Of Directors that the Past-President of the Iowa Football Coaches Association go and attend. Motion by Eric Trudo, seconded by Kevin Bowman to adjourn. Motion carried.
