Programme Overview This programme will give you the skills, knowledge and techniques that required to be involved in the creation and recording of music and audio. The programme is designed to reflect the range of areas that make up the subject of music technology and the wide range of jobs available to you once you have completed your studies. You will learn about the tools and techniques commonly used in music technology for application in areas such as live concert sound production, electronic music composition, and multimedia and game audio design. The programme has a strong sense of its position within the music business environment and you will study organisations within the music industry that will give you a greater understanding of the business context for music technology and will help you manage your career more effectively. Through a research project, you will get the opportunity to concentrate on a chosen subject area, according to your scholarly interest or career aspiration and develop, design and implement industry-challenging ideas and practices. You will also get the chance to work on film sound and game audio projects that help you build up a high-quality portfolio that you can show to employers. Moreover, you will build up your skills and knowledge of sound engineering practice in a live context where you can experience working in theatres and other performance venues. You will gain a wide-ranging experience that provides an excellent preparation for the many different types of work you can expect to encounter in the music and wider creative industries. This preparation is supplemented with modules that specifically prepare you for work in industry by looking at music business practices and developing yourself as a practitioner. Programme Structure The programme is delivered in full-time mode, comprising the following modules*: * Research Project Modules Sound Design and Game Audio Live Sound The Creative and Digital Industries The Creative Industry Professional Academic Writing 3: Writing Your Dissertation or Final Year Project Under review and subject to change The programme is for students who have an interest and background in both music and technology and hope to pursue a career in creative practice using music and sound and its technical realisation. 16

Entry Requirements The minimum entry requirements are: Holder of VTC Higher Diploma (HD) in Digital Music and Media (DE114104 / 61336 / 61976S); or Applicants with an alternative qualification deemed equivalent to HKQF Level 4, or UK FHEQ Level 5 qualification in a cognate subject with background knowledge and skills related to the music discipline and academic study such as sound and acoustics, digital music / media, audio electronic, etc., will be admitted via an interview conducted by Coventry University / SHAPE interview panel with final decision made by Coventry University. The panel will also take into account applicants prior qualifications and work experience. These applicants will, however, still be required to meet the English proficiency requirements. Interview Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited for interview. The applicants would be expected to present a portfolio to highlight their suitability to the programme. English Proficiency Requirements An English proficiency level at IELTS 6.0* or equivalent. VTC HD graduates are exempted from this English proficiency requirements. * Under review and subject to change Assessment Students are assessed on the submission of practical course work and written assignments based on a module s learning outcomes. This will include research into contemporary practices in the creative industries featuring sound and music, and the professional presentation of those ideas. On premature cessation of the programme, all fees and charges that have been collected in respect of any part of the programme failing to be conducted on or after the date of the cessation will be refunded within 1 month of the premature cessation. 10.
