Curse Intrductin Intrductin: A survey f infrmatin regarding children with special needs including pssible causes and characteristics f exceptinalities, educatinal interventin, available resurces, referral prcesses, and the advcacy rle and legislative issues. The student will summarize causes, incidence, and characteristics f exceptinalities related t the dmains f develpment; discuss current terminlgy and practices fr educatinal interventin; identify apprpriate cmmunity resurces and referrals fr individual children and families; review legislatin and legal mandates and their impact n early childhd practices and envirnment; explain the rle f advcacy fr children with special needs and their families; and use varius types f materials and classrm resurces, including current technlgy, in early childhd classrms t supprt learning in all dmains fr all children. Identify exceptinality as t genetic versus envirnmental causes. Discuss the prevalence/incidence f the different categries f exceptinalities. Describe pssible signs r characteristics f each area f exceptinality. 2. Discuss current terminlgy and practices fr educatinal interventin. Explain hw children develp an awareness f similarities and differences. Describe learning experiences that prmte children's appreciatin and respect fr all individuals and grups. Discuss classificatin and labeling f children with special needs. Identify individuals and their rle in develping and implementing Educatinal plans. Curse Materials These are the materials yu will need fr this curse. Extensins - IP (Curse in Prgress) In general, extensins are nt granted; i.e., yu must cmplete all cursewrk by the last day f class, and yu must meet any and all deadlines within the curse sessin as psted by yur instructr. Have cmpleted the majr prtin f the curse requirements as scheduled, with the exceptin f a majr quiz, final exam, r ther prject. The reasn fr being unable t cmplete the curse requirements is due t circumstances beynd yur cntrl, such as persnal illness, death in the immediate family, military rders, r, in the case f distance learning curses, technlgy issues. Yu can prvide acceptable dcumentatin f these circumstances. Have ntified the instructr in advance f absences/nn-participatin, whenever pssible. Prvide a realistic prpsal with specific timelines fr cmpletin f the remaining curse requirements. Any requests fr extensins must be submitted t yur instructr in writing (emails r messages) prir t the end f the curse. IPs are nt granted autmatically. The instructr makes the final decisin cncerning the granting f the incmplete grade (curse extensin) and will set an apprpriate deadline fr the extensin based n the amunt f cursewrk remaining. An IP grade cannt be replaced by the grade f W. If yu elect t repeat the curse, then yu must register fr the class. After yu pay full tuitin and fees, then yu must repeat the entire curse. It is yur respnsibility t arrange with the instructr fr the assignment f wrk necessary t cmplete the curse within the time specified. Yu are als respnsible fr maintaining cntact with yur instructr during this time perid. All cursewrk must be submitted prir t 110 days frm the last day f class t allw fr prcessing f yur grade. Failure t d s will result in the IP becming an F r FI. Under n circumstances will the deadline exceed 110 days after the scheduled end f the curse.
