SCS & STS IN STATES POLICE FORCE State Wise Data on : SCs & STs & OBCs in Forces Percentage of SCs & STs & OBCs in Forces 1.1.2009. Details are given in Tables - 4.1, 4.2 & 4.3 (Page 76, 77 & 78) The Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes, the traditional Weaker Sections, in India have been covered by affirmative action accelerate the process of their socio-economic upliftment. This chapter provides the information about State/UT wise data on rank wise representation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled (STs) and Backward Class (OBCs) in police force and their percentage share the tal sanctioned strength of police force for individual states. Percentage of reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other Backward classes is different for each State. Consequently each figure for a particular state should be looked against this percentage arrive at any conclusion. Strength of SCs, STs & OBCs (Excluding Bihar whose data was not available) At national level, the tal number of members of scheduled caste in police force was 1,88,803 (from Deputy Superintendent of Constable) accounting for 9.71% and there were a tal of 1,28,166 police personnel from scheduled tribes, constituting 6.80% of the tal police force. At all India level there were 2,16,178 number of police personnel (excluding Bihar and Tamil Nadu) from other Backward Class constituting 13.08% in the tal police force as on Representation of Scheduled Castes At States/UTs level percentage wise the highest representation of scheduled castes were 34.55% in Daman & Diu followed by 23.94% in Punjab and 18.23% in Himachal Pradesh. The maximum of 13.99% gap (%age difference reservation) between the actual percentage of scheduled castes police personnel in State Force as against the prescribed percentage of reservation approved for them by the State Governments was observed in Uttar Pradesh followed by 12.95% in West Bengal and 10.52% in Chhatisgarh, as shown below : %age of Representation of SC in police State State Govts men % Difference Uttar Pradesh 21.00% 7.01% 13.99% West Bengal 22.00% 9.05% 12.95% Chhatisgarh 16.00% 5.48% 10.52% Representation of Scheduled Tribes In the case of scheduled tribes Mizoram has the highest 86.31% representation in Force followed by 81.09% in Lakshadweep and 78.72% in Arunachal Pradesh. The maximum gap (%age difference reservation) between the tal scheduled tribes police personnel actually in place in State Force and the percentage of reservation approved for them by the State Governments was observed 74

Out of 30 States/UTs the highest representations of 48.21% were in Karnataka followed by 36.36% in Kerala and 31.56% in Sikkim Force.
