Report of Student Learning and Achievement Department of Business Administration Southeastern University For Academic Year: 2010-11 Mission of the Department of Business Administration The Department of Business Administration is dedicated to providing high- quality, relevant, and global learning experiences that emphasize moral and ethical practices within a Christ- centered environment. We prepare students with technical knowledge, essential skills, and leadership abilities that enable them to succeed in their professional and personal lives. We are committed to serving God and our stakeholders through stewardship, leadership and scholarship. Intended Student Learning Outcomes for Accounting : Student Learning Assessment for Accounting 2. Undergraduate accounting majors will be able to understand and use fundamental accounting concepts. 3. Undergraduate accounting majors will be prepared for their career. 4. Undergraduate accounting graduates are satisfied with their undergraduate education. 2. The accounting section of the CBE Standardized exit exam. The accounting major average on the accounting section of the CBE Standardized exit exam will be at or above the 70th percentile. 1. 2. Alumni Survey Alumni/graduates will report that they were satisfied that they were prepared to pursue a career with a score of at least 4.0 on a 5 point Likert scale. Summary of Results from Implementing 1. The accounting department average on the CBE exam was 76.2%. 2. Accounting majors scored at the 90.6 percentile on the accounting section of the CBE Standardized exam. Summary of Results from Implementing 2. There was one student that scored below the 50 th percentile. We need to monitor our weaker students to make sure they are gaining the necessary knowledge in their major. 3. Indirect Measure 1: None Needed. 4. Indirect Measure 2: We analyzed the overall effectiveness of this assessment and decided it was too superficial. We will be moving to an indirect measure of their performance on a degree specific assignment in the required business communications class. We need to review the required courses in the marketing major to determine if one of two of the optional upper level marketing classes should be required. 3. Indirect Measure 1: None Needed. Not 4. Indirect Measure 2: We analyzed the overall effectiveness of this assessment and decided it was too superficial.
