For ios devices like iphones and ipads, make sure you have the latest updates installed, then download the Learning Site app (waysidepublishing.com/learningsite/ learning-site-app). TIP: On ios devices, audio and video recording activities will only work through the app, not a mobile browser. For Android devices, make sure you have the latest updates installed and are using the Google Chrome mobile browser. NOTE: This guide will be updated frequently as the Learning Site goes through updates and improvements. Do not rely on versions of this PDF that have been saved to your desktop. Your Dashboard Your Dashboard is your centralized location for everything on the Learning Site. Think of it like your homepage it shows you your courses, digital textbooks, and notifications. 3
Create a course To get started, you need a course! Your Explorer course will contain the audio, video, and online activities and resources that go along with each textbook. If you have an access code or batch key, you will need it to create a course. If you do not have a code or key, your school or district may be using OneRoster or Clever s Secure Sync, which means your courses will be set up and students will be enrolled automatically. Contact your school or district s IT department for information. Get started by clicking New course from your Dashboard. This will create an Explorer course that your students will join. I have an access code: If you do not already have an activated subscription: Click Enter code, enter the 16-digit access code, and click Submit. 4

If it is not, contact customer service. Click Start subscription. TIP: Before clicking Start subscription, make sure the expiration date covers the length of your course. If it doesn t, contact customer service. 5
Click Create course. Enter a unique title for your course, something your students will recognize, such as: SchoolName Period 3 Spanish. Click Create course. 6

I have a batch key: Click Codes at the top of your Dashboard. Click Unlock, enter the 16-digit batch key, and click Submit. Check your subscription components and click OK. Your batch key will have unlocked access codes that now appear in your list of codes. 8
From the Codes tab, you may assign access codes to others or use an access code to start a subscription and create a course. To use an access code to start a subscription or create a course from the Codes tab, please read the Codes section below. I received an email with my access code: Click the link in the email, which takes you to the Codes tab on the Learning Site. CODES To use an access code in your Codes tab: Click the 16-digit access code for the textbook title for which you would like to create a course. 9

Your course Now that you have your course, you can monitor your Grades, Assignments, Students; access the course FlexText ; and adjust course settings. Printable instructions for your students to join your course are available at the end of this document. 12

In the Students tab, you can view your student roster with a link to each student s language portfolio, invite students to your course, and transfer students between your existing courses. Student roster is a list of all students who have joined your course. Check on the Status of pending invitations/invite more students See which students you have invited, whether they have created a Learning Site account, and if they ve joined your course. Students who have joined your course will also be seen on the Student roster. Click Invite more students to send an email to students inviting them to join your course. Transfer Click Transfer to another course to transfer your students between similar courses. 13
Assignments This is where you can assign and view assignments. Add an assignment by clicking To learn more about adding assignments, visit our FAQ (learningsite.waysidepublishing.com/ frequently-asked-questions) page. Students who join after you ve created an assignment will need to be reassigned those assignments. Edit assignments Click the pencil icon to edit an assignment. Archive assignments Click the folder icon to archive an assignment. Assignments are automatically archived 30 days after the due date. If there is no due date, it will be archived 60 days after course creation/edit date. Remove assignments Click the trash can icon to delete an assignment Completed/Assigned Clicking the numbers in the Completed/Assigned column will displays the status of each student s attempts for that assignment. 14
Settings In the Settings tab, you can adjust properties that affect your entire course. Assignment settings allow you to add a percentage penalty to assignments submitted late. Quiz settings let you: Hide the pass/fail status in the student s view of their gradebook (whether students see the words Pass or Fail in their gradebook). Change the max quiz attempts (the default is set at three attempts). Change the passing grade (the default is set at 80%). Show/Hide content lets you decide what students can see under the Content tab. NOTE: Students can never see the teacher-only resources folder (Sólo para profesores). 15
GET TIN G S TAR TED GUIDE V. 1. 0 Grades The Grades tab shows the results of your student s (and your own!) submissions. Quizzes: The number of quizzes this student/teacher has taken. Need grading: These quizzes need manual grading. Click the student s name and find these quizzes under Evaluation. A 1 indicates a quiz needs to be graded manually. Export grades: 16 Export your grades as an Excel spreadsheet, which can then be exported as a CSV file. Want more detailed info on grading? GET TIN G S TAR TED GUIDE V. 1. 0 FlexText Your FlexText is the page-by-page digital version of your textbook. You will be prompted to choose your Student or Teacher Edition FlexText to view. Navigation Navigate through the FlexText using the Table of Contents. Search Search with a word or phrase to quickly find a subject within the text. Jump to page Enter a page number to jump to that page in the FlexText. Notes/Highlights 17 Highlight text to add a note or highlight, and use this button to track already highlighted areas and old notes.

Open the email and click the link to join the course or copy and paste the hyperlink into your browser. If you do not already have a Learning Site account, this link will prompt you to sign up. Click Sign up, register as a student, and fill in the required fields. Open the confirmation link in your email. Click the link in the email or copy and paste the hyperlink into your browser. Log into the Learning Site. Enter your access code here: Click Accept. 18
