ilearn Basic User Guide 1. Point your browser to http://ilearn.cityu.edu.hk and click Login. 2. Login with your University username and password. 3. After logging you will then be presented with the course selection screen (Figure 1). (Please note that if you login on the day when you are scheduled to have a class, your specific class of that day will be listed instead.) Figure 1 Course Selection 4. Click on the corresponding course then you will be taken to the lesson selection screen (Figure 2). Figure 2 Lesson Selection

5. Select the lesson that you want to view or modify, for example clicking on the first class will take you to Figure 3: Figure 3 Home Screen after selecting class 6. Click on Questions & Answers module on the left will take you to the Questions and Answers home screen (Figure 4). Figure 4 Questions & Answers Home Screen

7. Here you can add or modify your questions. First you would probably like to add a new question, click on Add New Question at the top. Here you can type in the question and specify what type of question it is: a) Checkbox Multiple Choice answers where students can select more than one answer. b) Radiobox Multiple Choice answers where students can only select one answer. c) Text Free text input answers. d) True/False Multiple Choice answers where the only two answer choices are True and False. e) Yes/No Multiple Choice answers where the only two answer choices are Yes and No. If your question type is multiple choice, you will have the option to fill in the choices under the Answer section. Clicking on the circle next to an answer will indicate that is the correct answer. Figure 5 below shows a sample question: Figure 5 Sample Question Input Screen After you have entered a question, click on Save at the top. After saving there will be an additional Add New Question button at the top that you can click on to add another question. Or you can click Back to return to the Questions and Answers Home Screen. 8. After you have entered all the questions and returned to the Questions and Answers Home Screen, you will see your list of questions. Figure 6 shows a sample list of questions:

Here you can modify your questions: Figure 6 Sample Questions and Answers Home Screen a) Click on Student s View will display the screen that the students would see (not including the submit answers button) b) Click on Add New Question to add a new question. c) Click on Export Q&A will let you export all the questions and answers into a Adobe Acrobat PDF document. d) Changing the number under the Seq. (Sequence) column will change the numbering sequence of the questions. e) Clicking on the question text will let you modify the question (which will brings you back to a page similar to Figure 5) f) Clicking on Visibility icon will hide or show the particular question. g) Clicking on Delete icon will delete that question. It will only let you delete the question if no answer had been submitted. h) Clicking on the Question icon will display that Question on screen (for showing to class on a projector). i) Clicking on the Result icon will display that Question together with its Answers on screen (for showing to class on a projector). (see Figure 7) 9. Figure 7 below shows the questions results screen. The following is a sample of what a results screen would look like if you click on the Results icon on the Q&A home screen. For your lessons it will currently say No answer has been submitted for this question.

If you click on the Manual Get Results button, the screen will be refreshed with the latest student results. If you click on the Auto Get Results button, the system will automatically refresh the screen as and when students submit answers to this question so you do not have to click Manual Get Results each time. Figure 7 Q&A Results Screen Other modules in the ilearn system include the Teaching Pace which will let the students decide whether the current teaching pace is too fast or too slow. There is also a Live Chat module where students and tutors alike can chat online via text inputs. You can also click on the Admin option on the right hand side of the top bar, you will then add or modify the helpers for your classes (Helpers can have the functionality of adding and modifying the questions, though they would have no access to the answers). You can also generate reports of class participation rates and Q&A Answers of the whole course. You can also modify the class times and dates using the admin module. (The current dates and times were generated from data in the University database). If you would like to try out the system you can always select the ilearn Trial Class on the course selection screen, where tutors and students alike can freely try out the functionality of the ilearn system. For students using the system for your course, they can follow the steps as described above up to step no.6. At which point they will simply see the questions and answers as displayed in Figure 8 below:
