While we were there, we got to observe the politicians while Parliament was in session, meet different MP s and were given the chance to ask them questions. We also had a tour around Government House and had a meet and greet with the Governor General of NSW. It was an amazing experience and we learnt lots about how our state is run as well as the opportunity to meet new people. (Written by Annabelle Woods). North Coast Cross Country On Wednesday 13th of June, five of our students participated at the North Coast Photo of Oliver Arthur-Andres and Annabelle Woods with Cross Country at Nana Glen in Coffs the Byron Bay High School Captions and MP Ben Franklin at Harbour. Ky Bristow, Aaliyah Taeni and 2 Parliament House in Sydney. Sol Polo all participated, while India Brabazon placed 3rd in the under 15 s New books in the Library Girls and is off to state. Myles Gibson also placed 2nd in senior Multi Class and is also off to state. We would like to congratulate all the students that participated and wish India and Myles the best of luck at State Cross Country in July. Governor General Visit to our School Mullumbimby High School is proud to be hosting the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret d) Governor of New South Wales and Mrs Hurley on Wednesday the 20 th June. The Governor and his wife are coming to see our students participating in the Links to Learning program run by One Vision. The school is proud to participate in this program where students collaborate with industry professionals to create a RAP song, record it and create a video. The standard of the songs and production have been outstanding and the students gain so much from this invaluable experience. Keep up to date with the latest announcements and events happening at Mullumbimby High School. Take a moment to like our Facebook page. Page 1

Mullumbimby High Reading Challenge It is great to see many students have started participating in the Reading Challenge. All students in Years 7 and 8 should by now have a Reading Challenge booklet which will give them both instructions and a wide range of reading suggestions. Any student who does not have a booklet should get one from the Library. The Challenge finishes at the end of Term 3 but all students are encouraged to start now. Once a book is completed, parents can sign the reading record. Students should then drop into the library (before school or at lunch-time) to have their completed books recorded on their reading bingo card. Once a student completes four in a row they will go into the draw for a canteen voucher. The Challenge isn t meant to be onerous but is designed to encourage students to enjoy reading, read regularly and to experience a variety of books and reading material. Our library has a wide range of books which caters for a variety of interests and reading levels. Students can also read books from the public library or from home. Prizes will be awarded early in Term 4 to recognise and encourage students who have challenged themselves. 2018 Athletics Carnival Last Wednesday on the 13th of June was our school Athletics carnival. We had 288 students in attendance and some fantastic records broken during the day. Ava Jones in the 12yrs Shotput threw 6.77m beating E Gregory and T O'Brian the former record holders at 6.58m, Cooper Nelson in the 12yrs 400m ran 1.09.71min beating T David the former record holder at 1.09.85min, Tiani Hogan in 13yrs Javlin threw 25.34m beating M Webber the former record holder at 24.2m and Summer Butler in 17yrs Discus threw 29.48m beating J Gillimore the former record holder at 24.05m in 1986. Just like to thank all the students for their fantastic participation and behaviour and wish the best of luck to those students who will be heading off to Zone Athletics. Page 2

Mullum Unearthed Mullum Unearthed, a student-run Battle of the Bands was held last Friday night in our school hall. Eight amazing acts, from Mullumbimby High, Byron High and Shearwater, performed two songs each to compete for thousands of dollars of prizes and recording contracts. It was a fantastic event attended by 200 adults and students with all proceeds going towards Chrysalis (a support program for young women at Mullumbimby and Byron High Schools). After several hours of great entertainment and yummy food provided by our hospitality team, the winning acts were announced. First prize went to Suave, second prize went to Skye Mason and Ethan Jimenez (both in Year 12 at MHS), and third to The Ratmongers (MHS Year 8 students). The audience vote was overwhelmingly in support of the Ratmongers. An amazing amount of work was completed by Mr Ivett and his entertainment team of students to make the night run smoothly and professionally. A big thanks also to Oliver Arthur-Andrews and Erez Lebovits who initiated and led the project, Lucy Colli and Bethany Woods for their hard work all year and being the MCs on the night and the canteen ran by the Year 9 and 10 students in the Chrysalis group was also well received. Unreal effort Mullum High!
