Mullumbimby High Reading Challenge It is great to see many students have started participating in the Reading Challenge. All students in Years 7 and 8 should by now have a Reading Challenge booklet which will give them both instructions and a wide range of reading suggestions. Any student who does not have a booklet should get one from the Library. The Challenge finishes at the end of Term 3 but all students are encouraged to start now. Once a book is completed, parents can sign the reading record. Students should then drop into the library (before school or at lunch-time) to have their completed books recorded on their reading bingo card. Once a student completes four in a row they will go into the draw for a canteen voucher. The Challenge isn t meant to be onerous but is designed to encourage students to enjoy reading, read regularly and to experience a variety of books and reading material. Our library has a wide range of books which caters for a variety of interests and reading levels. Students can also read books from the public library or from home. Prizes will be awarded early in Term 4 to recognise and encourage students who have challenged themselves. 2018 Athletics Carnival Last Wednesday on the 13th of June was our school Athletics carnival. Mullum Unearthed Mullum Unearthed, a student-run Battle of the Bands was held last Friday night in our school hall. Eight amazing acts, from Mullumbimby High, Byron High and Shearwater, performed two songs each to compete for thousands of dollars of prizes and recording contracts. It was a fantastic event attended by 200 adults and students with all proceeds going towards Chrysalis (a support program for young women at Mullumbimby and Byron High Schools). After several hours of great entertainment and yummy food provided by our hospitality team, the winning acts were announced. First prize went to Suave, second prize went to Skye Mason and Ethan Jimenez (both in Year 12 at MHS), and third to The Ratmongers (MHS Year 8 students). The audience vote was overwhelmingly in support of the Ratmongers. An amazing amount of work was completed by Mr Ivett and his entertainment team of students to make the night run smoothly and professionally. A big thanks also to Oliver Arthur-Andrews and Erez Lebovits who initiated and led the project, Lucy Colli and Bethany Woods for their hard work all year and being the MCs on the night and the canteen ran by the Year 9 and 10 students in the Chrysalis group was also well received.
