SREE SOWDAMBIKA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING EERING (An ISO 9001:2008 Certified Institution) CHETTIKURICHI(PO)-626134, ARUPPUKOTTAI. Tel: 04566 223953 Fax: 04566 228232 SSCE NEWS LETTER Until You Triumph Vol. 2 Issue 11 November, 2011. Website: www.sowdambikaengg.com E mail: sscengg@ vsnl.net EDITORIAL BOARD Dr. M. Siva Kumar, Principal Editor-in-Chief MEMBERS Mr. K.S. Srinivas, Senior Lecturer / English Associate Editor Mrs. M. Anitha Radha Roobavathy, Lecturer / English Mrs. L. Gayathri Devi Lecturer / English Mr. M. Barathi Raja Lecturer / English Technical Support Ms. M. Tamilselvi, Lab Technician / English Mad(k)e Weak by time and fate But Strong in Will, To Strive, to seek, to find and not to yield - Tennyson From the Editorial Board: The Class room teacher and the teacher in general, vary in all respects. The Class room teacher teaches whatever he prepares. But on the other hand, the teaching may not have the worth of its own. As a result, the quality will be null. The quality teaching involves the depth of knowledge in the subject he teaches; the full-fledged preparation of the subject with analogies and anecdotes; and dedicated and devoted involvement etc. Moreover the quality teacher has to have a multi - dimensional and multi faceted ideas and insights towards the subject he teaches. Every now and then he should act as a ready reckoner. His contemplation over the subject and its nature will make him to act as a teacher on the whole. The word teacher does not mean that the act of teaching. He sets a role model. He is the pioneer of the culture and Custom which the students ought to have through out their lives. The quality evokes by the outcome of the students and their attitudes. The pace between the teacher and students may not be matching during their learning period. Later, the pace will certainly match as the students assimilate each and every word of the teacher. It is like in our early age we were all taught the doctrines and the philosophies which may not go into our inner soul but at the same time the brain stores every thing. When one attains the age, the process of recalling manifests. At that moment, we feel wonders of the inner meanings of the old doctrines and the philosophies. The taste is very much experienced. When the students experience the tastes of the words uttered by the teacher, that is an ultimate bless and satisfaction to the teacher. Hence, every teacher is not a teacher. The teacher has to have the quality of innateness and involvement which make him as a teacher. An ordinary teacher talks An average teacher explains A good teacher demonstrates An ideal teacher inspires Be proud to be a teacher.

Profile of an Engineering Teacher Mrs. Yogalakshmi Lecturer / Chemistry Mrs. S. Yogalakshmi is a lecturer with a good experience of six and a half years as a faculty of Science and Humanities department in Chemistry. Introduction T e a c h e r Among the greatest of all services that can be rendered by men to Almighty God, is the education and training of children, so that they can foster by grace in the way of salvation, growing like pearls of divine bounty in the shell of education and will be one day the jewel in the crown of abiding glory. The teacher is the yardstick that measures the achievements and aspirations of the nation. The worth and potentialities of a country get evaluated in and through the work of the teacher, The people of a country are the enlarged replica of their teacher. They are the real nation builders. It needs no description that the teacher is the pivot of any educational system of the younger students. On him rests the failure or the success of the system. If the teachers are well educated and if they are intellectually alive and take keen interest in their job, then only, success is ensured. But, if on the other hand, they lack training in education and if they cannot give their heart to their profession, the system is destined to fail. Hence, the teacher is another vital component of the College. Definitions The teacher is a Brahma, the creator, he is God Vishnu, and he is God Maheshwar. He is entire universe, salutations to him. -- Indian Prayer The true teacher is he who can immediately come down to the level of the student, transfer his soul to the student s soul and see through and understand through his mind. Such a teacher can really teach and none else -- Swami Vivekanand The teacher s place in society is of vital importance. He acts as the pivot for the transmission of intellectual traditions and technical skills from generation to generation and helps to keep the lamp of civilization burning -- Dr. S. Radhakrishnan A teacher can never truly teach unless he is still learning himself. A lamp can never light another lamp unless it continues to burn its own flame. The teacher who has come to the end of his subject, who has no living trafic with his knowledge, but merely repeats his lessons to his students, can only load their minds. He can not quicken them -- Tagore Every teacher and educationist of experience knows that even the best curriculum and the most perfect syllabus remains dead unless quickened in to life by the right method of teaching and the right kind of teachers. -- Secondary Education Commission The Teacher is the real maker of history. -- H.G. Wells The teacher is the maker of man. -- Sir John Adams A Teacher is the image of Brahma -- Manu Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. 116

Essential Qualities of a Teacher Teacher as a Role Model Teacher s Character Teacher s Personality Teacher s Mental Health Teacher s Physical Health Teacher s Social Adjustment Teacher s Professional Efficiency Teacher s Academic Achievements Teacher s Professional Training Teaching consists of the following: Planning Preparation Presentation Evaluation Giving feedback Diagnosis Remediation Enrichment Promotion of Creative Teaching: Planning Testing Revising Innovation in Education Teaching as a Pleasurable Activity: Lecturing Working with small groups Designing Instructional Units Love for subject matter Organizing students All such activities can provide deepest satisfaction in and from the act of applying their craft. Teaching as Social Service It is like a nursing It contributes to the lives of others Decision to teach is deeper than a love for subject matter. People have attraction to the life of teacher POEM East or West Our teacher is the best He is our best guide He helps us to decide He tells us the right path When we are in trouble He is a book of wisdom Which gives us knowledge He s a burning candle Which gives us light? All in all He is the best of all Hence I conclude that the teacher is a dynamic force of the college. A college without teacher is just like a body without the soul, a skeleton without flesh and blood, a shadow without substance. There is no greater need for the cause of education today than the need for strong manly men and motherly women as teachers for the young. Also I heard that the teacher of all teachers is LIFE and it teaches us every moment. I am proud as a teacher and to be a teacher ever. Mr. M. Karuppasamy Lecturer / Maths Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime. 117
