HEB NEWS www.heberiault.ecsd.net 8125-167 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5R 2T7 (780)489-5490 Mrs. Lafreniere - Principal Mrs. Lupul Assistant Principal December 2017 Advent Prayer Every December, Christians are invited into a time of waiting and preparation for the coming of the Lord. At Christmas, God comes among us in the person of Jesus, the Word of God made flesh, to share in our humanity and invite us to participate in his life of divine love. A Message from the Administration One powerful Advent exercise which we can enter as parents is to reflect, with our Lord, what it is we hope for in our deep love for our children. Sometimes, it helps to get out a piece of paper and put words down on paper which express our hopes and desires. What is it legitimate to hope for? If we do it before the Lord, and with the Lord, we'll hope for the right things. Before the Lord we'll get in touch with our deep desire that our children be well and be protected from harm. We will look upon each child, there in the presence of the Lord, and wish that they grow spiritually, having a relationship with God that sustains them. On each Monday of Advent, we will have a special prayer and song on the morning broadcast. As a community, we will gather on Friday, December 22 for Mass to celebrate the fourth week of Advent. Our Christmas Mass will begin at 8:40 in the morning. Please come and celebrate with us!

H. E. Beriault Elementary/Junior High School hosted a Métis week celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 15. where the entire school population was invited to learn about the history and culture of the Métis. Tania Kruk from the Métis Nation of Alberta gave an informative presentation including Metis history, culture and symbols. She brought along actual items that the students could view. Jacqueline and Samantha Gibbon then wrapped up the ceremony by jigging to two songs. The dancers were cheered on by the students who clapped along with them. Student Services My name is Melissa Yanitski and I am the new provisional psychologist at HEB. I am super excited to be a part of this school and amazing student services team. My role is to provide in-school, one-on-one, and group counselling to support students with their overall mental health and wellbeing. Hi, I am Constable Joe Elias with the Edmonton City Police Service. I am happy to be working at H. E. Beriault for this year. I am here to be a role model for all students and I am starting up a Men-In The-Den lunch hour program which will offer opportunities for some of our male students to learn about what it means to be a good guy. I have also started a morning fitness club for students and I work out with Mrs. Craig at lunch with the students, demonstrating the need for life long fitness. I hope to be available to students for all their questions that they may have about policing and the law. Volleyball Volleyball playoffs happen in December for Sr Boys and Sr Girls teams.
