IFP-Tanzania 2009 FORD FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM Scholarship Application Form IFP- TANZANIA-2010 The Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program ( IFP) provides opportunities for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide. To ensure that fellows are drawn from more diverse backgrounds than ever before, IFP Tanzania actively seeks candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. Targeted applicant: Those with demonstrated potential leadership plus community commitment to development and social justice. Those with academic excellence plus relevant work or professional experience to the proposed field of study. Those working with marginalised groups in rural or urban poor. IMPORTANT NOTICE 1. Please read this form throughly before filling it. Ensure that all sections are accurately filled. 2. Application forms received after the deadline will not be processed. 3. Incomplete forms will not be considered. 4. Application forms lacking all the supporting documents will be disqualified 5. General Guidelines The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program provides support for up to two years of formal graduate-level study. Fellows will be selected from countries in Africa and the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Russia where the Foundation maintains active overseas programs. U.S. nationals are not eligible, although fellows may study in the United States. Fellows are chosen on the basis of their demonstrated leadership potential /commitment to community and academic ability to undertake graduate studies. Fellows may enroll in Masters programs and may pursue any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the interests and goals of the Foundation. The Foundation currently works in twelve (12) fields of study in order to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and social injustice, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement. The program will provide placement service to all selected fellows through IFP International Placement Partners that is British Council, Netherlands Organization for International Corporation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) and the Institute of International Education (IIE) with placement preference to Strategic University Partners (SUPS). Who Is Eligible? Applicants for the IFP fellowship must be resident nationals or other official residents of Tanzania. In addition, all applicants must: Hold an honors bachelor s degree, for those applying for Masters Fellowships. Have not previously studied outside the Africa region. Have demonstrable leadership skills and commitment to rendering community service and national development. Have significant relevant professional or other work experience related to the proposed field of study, of not less than three (3) years. Be ready to pursue a post-graduate degree that will directly enhance their ability and leadership capacity in an academic, policy, practical or artistic discipline for effective struggle to improve livelihood in their communities, at districts level, regional level, the national or global levels and achieve social justice. Present a plan specifying how they will apply their studies to social problems in their own communities, wards, districts, regions or the nation upon their return after the fellowship period. Announcing the 9 th Round of International Fellowships Program for the 2011/2012 Academic Year The International Fellowships Program (IFP) is a program based in New York, and supported by the Ford Foundation. It is administered in Tanzania as IFP-Tanzania in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF). IFP-Tanzania is hereby announcing the fellowships for advanced study, of up to two years of study to exceptional individuals with potential leadership qualities and who will use their education to further development in their own communities and the nation, ultimately bringing about greater social and economic justice worldwide. IFP fellowships will be awarded to applicants from diverse backgrounds, more specifically, to those from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. A total of Fourteen (14) fellowships will be awarded to deserving Tanzanians, for the 2011/12 academic year to undertake MASTER S PROGRAM ONLY. Special Note: Priority will be given to people living & working with communities outside the major cities Applicants are cautioned that background checks would be run on short-listed candidates Attention to Applicants: Deadline for applications is not later than 5:00 on MONDAY 15th February 2010. Late applications will NOT be processed. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted and finalist names will be posted on IFP website. Interested persons can obtain the application forms from the City Librarian at the Tanzania library services headquarter in Dar es Salaam or from the Regional librarians at the following regional libraries: Arusha, Bukoba, Dodoma, Iringa, Kigoma, Manyara, Mbeya, Morogoro, Moshi, Mtwara, Musoma, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Singida, Songea, Sumbawanga, Tabora and Tanga. Applicants from Zanzibar can obtain the application forms from ANGOZA offices. Zanzibar State University, and also from the Zanzibar Library Service. Forms will also be distributed by individual IFP alumni and fellow elects. The application forms can also be downloaded from the IFP-Tanzania web site: http://ifptanzania.esrftz.org/ or photocopied from the original application form. The Application and Selection processes Do not fax or email your application form. All applications must be posted through EMS or delivery by hand to IFPT - Tanzania office which is situated at the ESRF (See physical address below). Applications are, screened, reviewed and short listed by team of local panel composed of scholars and practitioners from various academic and development fields. Another identical selection panel evaluate and interviews the short listed candidets, and makes the final selections. Who Cannot Apply Ford Foundation staff and their family members may not serve on selection panels and are not eligible to apply for IFP awards. Members of selection committees, staff of IFP International Partners and their family members are also ineligible for IFP awards. Supporting documents which include official University transcripts, University degree certificate certified by the relevant institution. 3. Copies of post - secondary academic certificates, and any other Professional or academic certificates/awards. 4. Four (4) Passport size photos (recently taken). 5.
