One, your wishes should be made known to your family or those in charge of funeral arrangements and preferably be in writing. Two, a funeral can only be performed on a Mason in good standing (your dues must be current). Don t make assumptions. (by Bill Eyerly) 2

FROM THE EAST Greetings Brethren! I came across an interesting question the other day asked by a brother from another lodge. His question was What makes a man a Mason? Is it the things he owns? Is it the people he knows? Is it all the attention he gets? What do you think?... Well the answer that was given for the question is It s what's in his Heart! Think about this for a while would this be your answer? The Honorable Sean Parks was the guest speaker at our stated meeting of March 20th. He talked with many Brothers during dinner and then gave a lengthy presentation at a break during the meeting. It was very interesting to hear what is going on in the county and particularly South Lake County. He was also very open to questions from the floor. This was a well attended event and hopefully the forerunner of many more. We now have the District 18 Traveling Gavel!! On the evening of March 28th, 11 Brothers, plus our visitor from South Florida went to Tavares Lodge and secured the gavel. The Villages Lodge thought they were going to get it, but they only had 6 members in attendance. We can expect to see them at one of our next meetings. Thanks to all who turned out for this fun event. 6

The Bahia Shrine has given the lodge some tickets to the Shrine Circus on May 6 th & 7 th. This purpose is to get the non-members of the Shrine interested, but also get people from our Masonic area to the circus as well. This is a great way for people who are not familiar with the Masons or the Shrine to become familiar with Shriners Hospital for Children. There are 15 tickets available, please contact me if you or someone you know is interested in going. Fraternally yours, Eddie Hemenway, Worshipful Master 7

On March 25, Brothers Garrett Paquette, Daniel Ruiz-Isasi and Dale Doucet traveled to Wildwood Lodge #92 and attended their breakfast feast. Afterwards they traveled to the Marion-Dunn lodge #19 in Ocala to view a Gavel used by Brother George Washington. On September 18, 1793, Brother Washington used this same Gavel in a Masonic ceremony when they laid the cornerstone of the United States Capital building in Washington DC. The Gavel was made by John Duffy, reputedly a member of Fredericksburg Lodge #4. The Gavel's head is made of the same Maryland marble used in the interior of the original United States Capital building. The handle is made from native American cherry wood. The Gavel is entrusted to the Potomac Lodge #5 in Washington, DC. And when not being displayed around the country, is housed in an illuminated glass-faced safe deposit box at a bank across from the Potomac Lodge or at the Capital Visitors Center also in Washington, DC. 9

The Masonic Club of Kings Ridge is a social club for 3rd degree Masons. The Club meets for breakfast on the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30am at the IHOP restaurant on Highway 27 in Clermont. We also travel several times each year to Masonic Lodges in the area to attend stated Lodge meetings. There are a number of interesting Lodges within easy driving distance. Master Masons are cordially invited to join in our activities. For more information contact: Jim Hicks, Pres., 321-662-6376 or George Gillett, Sec/Treas, 352-449-9772 14
