Work Experience Programme Work experience isn t just about having something to add onto your CV. It s about helping you understand the huge variety of professions open to you after you leave school or university. It allows you the opportunity to engage with the working world to learn about what really goes on. In the 2016 report by High Fliers Research, almost half the recruiters who took part in the survey warned that graduates who have had no previous work experience at all are unlikely to be successful during the selection process and have little or no chance of receiving a job offer for their organisations graduate programmes. The full report can be read here. Work experience can be vital for a number of vocational degrees such as Medicine, Teaching, Vet Science, Nursing and Architecture. However, it is just as important for pupils who have no idea about their future career path as it allows them the chance to explore the roles available before making any final decisions. It allows them to talk to those in the industry and begin to building a network of contacts, shows they are curious, inquisitive, and prepared to challenge themselves. It enables them to showcase their skills, develop new ones, and begin to learn about office politics. In another new initiative this year, the Careers Department is delighted to announce that, from June 2017, all Fifth Form pupils will be invited to take part in work experience during the week commencing 26 June 2017 (after their GCSE exams have finished). Letters will be sent to all Fifth Form parents and guardians detailing the programme in the next few weeks. NOW OPEN! - External Work Experience Programmes: LAW Pinsent Masons, an international law firm in London, has just opened their 2017 work experience online application.
