LNCS Weekly News December 21, 2018 From the LNCS Principals As we wrap up 2018, we want to take this opportunity to say, Thank You! We are grateful you choose to send your students to Wenonah and Keewaydin. We are grateful for all of your support and partnership, which benefits every single child in our schools. We wish you a joyous and peaceful winter break and we look forward to seeing our amazing students back at school on January 7, 2019. ~ Keewaydin Principal La Shawn Ray and Wenonah Principal Kelly Wright What s Coming Up? Winter FAST Assessments Now through January 18 Students take the FAST as a quick (average of 30 minutes per student) and valuable way for teachers to measure student growth in math and reading in the fall, winter, and spring. Some tips for parents are to make sure your child is well rested, eats a healthy breakfast, arrives at school on time and feels encouraged to do their best work and to be persistent. Wenonah Remaining Classrooms 1/9-111 math, 109 math. 1/14-111 reading. 1/15-108, 107 math, 110 reading. 1/17-109 reading. 1/18-107 math. Keewaydin - A detailed class testing schedule is available on the LNCS website at http://lakenokomis.mpls.k12.mn.us/assessments_testing. Questions? Kameron.Wittmer@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-4695. Debate Team to Compete in First Tournament Thursday, January 10 The middle school debate team will head to their first tournament after school on Thursday, January 10 at Central High School. Teams will compete in three rounds of debate, being randomly assigned to the Affirmative or Negative side of the argument. The resolution being debated is: The United States Congress should pass legislation allowing for open borders for all immigrants, only barring proven or strongly suspected violent criminals for the president to sign. We have been enjoying discussing such a rich topic. For many of our debaters, this will be their first tournament. Wish them luck!
