WEEK 1, TERM 4 Thursday 18 October, 2018 Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome to the final term of 2018 and a special welcome is extended to the following - Liam Grosvenor (Curriculum ESO), Keerat Cheema in 1I and Liam Mayne in RT. I hope they enjoy their time at our wonderful school. Monday October 15th was a Professional Learning day for all teaching staff with a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus. Despite no electricity on site for the first couple of hours, the day commenced with a guest speaker providing practical activities and insight into the scientific aspect of STEM. The afternoon session was dedicated to a Reflective Practice session whereby every teacher shared their STEM successes, challenges, design challenges, units of work and activities through photos, videos, anecdotes, student work samples and artefacts. We are very fortunate to have Mark Roberts (STEM Coordinator) oversee this area of learning and provide many resources and activities for class teachers to utilise within their classrooms. Term 4 marks the commencement of summer uniform for all students and is a timely reminder that the wearing of the correct summer uniform is required please. The Uniform Shop was opened during the holidays for parents to purchase any necessary items thanks to Lilly Del Medico (Uniform Shop Manageress) for making this possible. Over the holiday break, the Art Room was relocated to the other end of the bay of transportable classrooms to make room for our Stage 1 Building Project. A new bell / PA system has been installed which will enable all personnel on site to hear announcements and the different bells that ring throughout the day. Two new pie warmers were purchased for the Canteen to cater for the increase in lunch orders this year. A huge bouquet of thanks is extended to the P & F Committee for purchasing them. Our End of Year Concert Dr Seuss Musical is on FRIDAY NOVEMBER 30th commencing at 7pm. All students are expected to attend this special event as every class will be performing on stage and showcasing some of their Performing Arts skills. There will also be a Visual Arts Display on the night showcasing the work of our Semester 2 Visual Art classes. Please record this special date in your diary. I wish you all a wonderful week as we commence the final term of the 2018 academic year. Christine Comas

It was one that I purchased during a family trip to Canberra in July from the National Arboretum. The reason for being so enthused in beginning this book is because of the work we have already done and continue to do at our school in an attempt to reduce landfill. The first point that is highlighted in the book is the reduction of single use plastics straws, bags, coffee cups, bottles and plastic packaging. Maybe we could all start by reducing the use of these items from our lives? Could you do it? Reduce Our Landfill at St Martin s At St Martin s we are aiming to reduce our landfill in an attempt to become even more sustainable. Our next new initiative is for students to take home any food wrappers that they bring to school. As of this week, all food wrappers will need to be taken home. Remember that reducing the amount of landfill, reusing containers, recycling and repairing are the keys to serving God s gift of creation and preserving this wonder of Earth. Don t forget Wrapper Free Wednesday! Pick up a GG Grinds Coffee order form from the Front Office coffee never tasted so good!
