Notables: COLLEGE of ARTS & SCIENCES Creative Writing Ecotone and Lookout Books will receive and ArtWorks grant as part $25M from NEA ArtWorks supports only projects that meet the highest standards of excellence. Data Science SAS Super FREQS! Four first-year MS Data Science students made up UNCW s team one of eight selected for the SAS Global Forum Student Symposium this month in Denver. World Languages and Cultures Dr. Ashlee Balena was awarded the 2017 Blackboard Exemplary Course Program Award for using their product to enhance teaching and improve the student experience.
Notables: COLLEGE of ARTS & SCIENCES WSRC-YWCA Women of Achievement Bonnie Monteleone and Julie-Ann Scott-Pollock were recognized for their commitment to conservation and education. Sociology/Criminology Jean-Anne Sutherland was guest on WHQR s Coastline program on Gender Roles and Barriers to Career Advancement for Women. International Studies Jasmine Ceron was awarded and accepted a Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic in Oman this is a first-ever for CAS and UNCW. Communication Studies Dr. Bill Bolduc and two former students received an Award of Excellence in the BEA Festival of Media Arts the premiere venue for such awards.
Notables: COLLEGE of HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES Health & Human Services Week 1,500+ enjoyed 30 free events ranging from an intergenerational walk and yoga to lectures on digital health and longevity to raise community awareness. School of Health & Applied Human Sciences Dr. Sabrina Cherry has been accepted into the 2018 Center for Health Equity (CHER) Institute at California State University, Long Beach. PAL Partnership with Wilmington Police Police Activities League partners Wilmington Police with CHHS for annual Cross-City Championship in Trask Coliseum.
Notables: WATSON COLLEGE of EDUCATION Education Leadership $40K CAA grant opens collaboration with colleagues at Elon, Drexel, and College of Charleston to better understand student athletes opportunities for HIPs. 2018 ACPA Advocate Award Dr. Symphony Oxendine received this impressive award that recognizes significant commitment to social justice. DC Virgo Lab School Agreement Approved NHCS Board of Education unanimously approved DC Virgo as UNCW s collaborative partner in the laboratory school initiative.
Notables: CAMERON SCHOOL of BUSINESS SWAIN Center Successfully added third module in the Data Analytics professional development program. This is a collaborative effort with CAS/CSB and Grad School. Accountancy & Business Law Collaborative paper by Drs. Mautz, Lee and Fiedler was accepted by Internal Audit titled Beyond Bitcoins: What Auditors need to Know about Blockchains. Marketing Recently created the center for Sales Excellence & Customer Delight.
Notables: OFFICE of ACADEMIC AFFAIRS Honors College Student magazine Second Story Journal received first place in th NC College Media Association Conference. QENO Grant Ms. Natasha Davis was awarded a $225,000 threeyear grant for NPO Capacity Building from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation. Office of Community Engagement One of three new programs for county government agencies launched by Continuing and Professional Education is a twoyear Leadership Academy for Cumberland Co.
