FATHER VACHON NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTS Nov. 16, 2017 ADMINISTRATOR S MESSAGE We continue to work on the Gospel Virtue of Peace for November. As we approach the season of Advent, we look to find peace in our hearts and to share peace with others. As Mother Teresa shared, Peace begins with a smile. Winter has arrived! Students go outside for recess unless the temperature with the wind chill is below -25 degrees. Please ensure your child is equipped with winter gear, including jackets, ski pants, toques, mitts, scarves and boots! Attendance and Late students We would like to improve our attendance and minimize the number of students arriving late to school in the morning and at lunch. This causes disruptions to late students and other students in the school. Just a reminder that school begins at 8:40 in the morning, and 12:25 in the afternoon. Early Arrivals - We discourage students from arriving to school prior to 8:15 as there is no formal supervision at this time. Thanks for being respectful of these circumstances. Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 23 rd after school and on Friday, November 24 th during the day. Beginning Monday, students will be manually scheduled in for their conference. Thanks to all families that have booked their conferences online! We look forward to seeing you to celebrate your child s learning. Progress reports will be handed out during the conference. Our Advent Concert will take place at St. Patrick Parish on December 12 th, beginning at 7:00. Students are beginning to practice their musical selections. This should be a great evening! Support your Catholic School Community Council and the students of Father Vachon! The CSCC has two upcoming events. Santa s Market will take place on Saturday, November 25 th from 10:00-4:00 at Father Vachon. The Bi-Annual Turkey Bingo will be held on Thursday, December 7 th beginning at 7:00 in the Father Vachon Gym. These events help fund opportunities for the students of Father Vachon School. BAND NEWS: The band students have been working hard this fall as we gear up for our winter concert! This year, the band concert will be Friday, December 15 at 10:30. Students are asked to wear white shirts, black pants/skirt, and black shoes/socks for the concert. All students should have received a Band Newsletter at the beginning of September. If you have not seen this newsletter yet, please ask your child about it. In particular, the Supplies Page lists the necessary supplies band students should have. Please make sure that your student has all of the required band supplies, especially the Standard of Excellence book. Please continue to encourage your child to practice their band instrument! Practice is really important for student improvement. If students are having particular difficulties, I am available for extra help before school and during morning recess on band days. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!
