Special Arrangements Cambridge English is committed to helping candidates with special needs have the same opportunities as other candidates when taking English language exams. Special arrangements can be made for candidates with, for example: visual difficulties, hearing difficulties, speaking difficulties, specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, permanent writing difficulties (e.g. due to cerebral palsy), a medical condition such as diabetes, temporary writing difficulty (e.g. a broken arm), temporary hearing difficulty. Examples of special arrangements are: Braille papers, lip-reading versions of listening papers, enlarged print papers, extra time. Cambridge English and British Council Georgia will try to make arrangements that help you perform to the best of your ability in your chosen exam. To apply for special arrangements you must contact us 3 months before the test date and provide relevant medical reports to support your application. Confirmation of entries After entries have been received by Cambridge English, candidates are issued statements confirming their entries. Full details of dates, times and venues will be indicated in your Statement of Entry that you need to pick up from the British Council office 10 days before the exam date. Remember it is your responsibility to contact Examinations Services at British Council for further test day details. If any corrections to names are necessary these should be brought to the attention of the Exams staff. Transfer Entries cannot be transferred from one examination sitting to a future one or to a different level. Refunds If a candidate withdraws his/her entry on medical grounds he/she may be refunded part of the exam fee, provided that a written request is made to the British Council Examinations Services and is accompanied by a statement from a medical practitioner. This statement should specify the medical reasons why the candidate had to withdraw his/her entry or was unable to sit the examination. These should be given to Examinations Services no later than a week after the examination date. Refunds are not given for any other reason (including, for example, clashes of dates with local examinations). Marking and grading Marking of papers is undertaken in the UK by suitably qualified, trained staff, centrally supervised from Cambridge. Grading of components takes place in Cambridge. Speaking tests are face-to-face, and performance of the candidates is assessed at the time of the administration by approved examiners, who are subject to regular standardisation and monitoring. Statements of Results and Certificates All candidates will receive a Statement of Results five to seven weeks after sitting the exam. These are available on-line from the candidate support website, or are issued by the centre where they took the exam. Certificates are issued to candidates with passing grades within three months of sitting the exam. The Statement of Results gives information about individual paper performance and a new overall score as well as the overall grade (YLE candidates do not get an overall grade). Individual paper performance is not provided for those candidates with grade X (absent from part of the examination), grade Z (absent from all of the examination), or PENDING (result to follow). If a school or candidate believes that a result is incorrect, they can request a Results Enquiry. Candidates answers and other work done by candidates as part of an examination will not be released to candidates, schools or centres. Enquires about results Enquiries may be made within a certain period after receiving the Statements of Result. However, it should be noted that it is extremely rare for such enquiries to lead to a change in the result for the following reasons: the majority of papers are either machine-marked or clerically marked with double-checking; examinermarked papers are typically double-marked and in borderline or disputed cases marked three or four times.
