The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the central organisation that processes applications for courses at UK universities and colleges. Choosing the right course and university or college is a life-changing decision and UCAS aim to make the whole process to be as flexible, responsive and trouble free as possible.
You can start to think about your application starting from now! For most courses, the deadline is the 15 th January 2018. If you wish to go to Oxford or Cambridge, or study Dentistry, Medicine, Veterinary Science and Veterinary Medicine then your application needs to be done by the 15 th October 2017. Look on www.ucas.com for more information.
For 2018 applications, the UCAS website should be live! This is when you can register for the application process. When you register, make sure it is for 2018. At some point you ll be asked if you want to apply through a school you do! You will need to input this information: UCAS number: 13175 Buzzword: Caludon18
Unfortunately it s not free! It costs if you only make 1 choice ( 13), and if you make from 2-5 ( 24). If you need help with this please come and see us. Most students will use all 5 choices to maximise their chances of getting onto a course. Be careful! Be realistic! But aspire for some! Use Unifrog to help you. Do your research!
Online with a credit/debit card. Let us know if this is an issue.
Some universities ask you for specific grades for the subjects you are studying. Others will ask you to achieve a certain amount of UCAS points. These have changed for the new qualifications.
Do be realistic about the grades you are likely to get. You will have more of an idea after you get your results in August. If you for example achieve 3 C grades in your AS levels, then applying for a course which asks for 3 A grades is not likely to be realistic. Remember there is no point retaking AS exams as they won t count any more (in most cases). There is more and more competition for university places, and being too over optimistic could result in you ending up with no university place.
