HS #5 Opening Year Grades Opening HS #5 with 9th and 10 th Grades OR 9 th Grade Only? The Boundary Advisory Committee members drew consensus and recommends that HS #5 open with 9 th and 10 th grade classes in order to have a viable student enrollment at two grade levels. This would allow the staff to create an appropriate set of course offerings and performing arts program, a competitive athletic program, and other extra-curricular programs. This will also relieve enrollment at other high schools.

HS #5 Opening Year Choice Opening HS #5 with Student Choice OR Required attendance at one or both grade levels, based on new boundary? The Boundary Advisory Committee members recommend students entering 9 th grade and who reside in HS #5 s attendance area be required to enroll and attend HS #5. The Boundary Advisory Committee members recommend further discussion and input be facilitated to address the question of choice or required enrollment at the 10 th grade level.

Choice or Required Attendance based on New Boundaries Choice: 1. Students/families have choice 2. Students/families can make decisions based on existing program involvement 3. Students/families may make decision based on extra-curricular/non-academic issues 4. The opening 10 th grade class may be significantly smaller in enrollment than the 9 th grade class. 5. Incoming 10 th grade students may choose to remain at their current school making an opening 10 th grade class: a) too small to open with a viable number of students through their senior year of high school b) Imbalanced academically and athletically c) Too few students to implement performing arts programs and/or certain athletic programs. d) The current four high schools may not have sufficient relief from existing high enrollment in 2016. Required Attendance: 1. Students/families have no choice 2. Enrollment numbers are dependable and balanced based on new boundary design and accompanying geographic projections 3. With clearly defined student numbers the Principal will be able to: a) hire staff and develop curriculum b) create proper course offerings c) The 10 th grade class will have a viable number of students through their senior year of high school d) The 10 th grade class will be academically and athletically balanced 4. The new high school and existing high schools will be better able to plan with a stable opening enrollment. 5. The current four high schools will have sufficient relief from existing high enrollment in 2016.
