Student Placement Middle School teachers will use the ECRA readiness for High School success standards based test to identify honors placement for students in: English Language Arts/Literacy Math/Science Social Studies Case managers will use an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to identify which class students will be placed in for Special Education. If the second number if a 9 on the pink course selection, it is a class that is offered in the special education department. Do not select a course with ****** after the course name unless your son/daughter has an IEP and has been directed by their case manager to select the class.

Rubric for Spanish I Vocabulary study skills and a strong command of English grammar are necessary The student needs to be able to grasp/ understand vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure in English If the student cannot grasp English concepts, it is difficult to understand Spanish concepts (the class will require a connection to be made between English and Spanish)
Recommendation Letters Geneseo High School will mail a letter regarding course recommendations for the 2016-17 school year on February 12, 2016 based on the MS Readiness Assessment and current 8th grade course performance. These classes must be scheduled in Skyward along with PE/DrEd and Health. If a parent has concerns about the course recommendation(s), please contact your child s high school counselor after February 24 and before March 1.
Selecting Electives Course terms which are S1 meet first semester Course terms which are S2 meet second semester Courses terms which are S12 meet either 1 st or 2 nd semester. Make sure you select both semesters of a year long course. Year long courses are indicated in bold on page 2 of the Course Planning Guide. (i.e. foreign language, band, choir, Family and Consumer Science, Intro to Ag). Do not select a course with 9 as the second number without teacher permission.
Selecting PE, Health, Driver Education 1st semester - 10/12/2000-03/11/2002 2nd semester - 03/16/2002-09/16/2002 Schedule Health in either semester. Students will schedule PE/DrEd according to the DOB and Health according to the period and semeseter where it fits in with their other classes.. If you have completed driver education independently, please write that on your print out of course requests.

Required Classes for Freshmen (This is different than reported at Orientation you must schedule ALL of you classes in Skyward) 1 st and 2 nd semester of 9 th grade English 1 st and 2 nd semester of math 1 st and 2 nd semester of science PE/DrEd and Health or Health and PE/ DrEd. (According to DOB 0 see slide 12). You can switch the semester of Health only to make room for 2 electives which only meet in the same semester. Schedule at least 2 years of electives. Schedule a minimum of 6 classes each semester.
Study Hall recommended for all freshmen You may take one or two semesters of study hall. Study Hall is offered during periods 6 & 7 both semesters. Students may seek additional academic assistance from teachers during study hall. There is no guarantee your study hall will be scheduled during 7 th period.
Meetings at the Middle School Counselors will meet with the entire 8th grade class to distribute the remaining course planning guides and list of course offerings on Wednesday February 17. Students and parents can begin to enter all course requests in their Skyward Account February beginning at 5 pm, Sunday, February 21 st and will remain open until 11:59 pm on Wednesday, February 24 th.
