Virtual Backpack St. Gabriel School... April 15, 2018 The Risen Christ Blooms! THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER Our Parish Mission Theme As an integral part of the Catholic Community of St. Gabriel, St. Gabriel School joins this year in celebrating and advancing the parish wide theme of "Welcome Home, Recommit to Sundays." We are grateful for St. Gabriel Parish, and the entire Catholic Church, that is our home, our family, and our place of our core belief, strength, nourishment, joy and gift ~ the Eucharist.
Our School Mission Being Christ every day, everywhere, through teaching, learning, leading and serving. As clearly expressed by our Pope and our Bishop, the Church by her nature is missionary. As part of the Church, our mission is to be Jesus for students, bring Jesus to students, bring students to Jesus, teach as Jesus, learn as Jesus, lead as Jesus, serve as Jesus. Dear St. Gabriel Parents, I hope the beauty of the Easter season is bringing hope and new life to you and your family. No matter the weather or the circumstances we are blessed to have a faith that promises us hope and peace through all, and the meeting of our Lord with us on our life journeys when we least expect it, as on the road to Emmaus... if we but see... Tomorrow we are excited to have our first experiences of our new Augmented Reality (AR) devices in a day of Google Expeditions. AR is a unique learning opportunity that is available to us at St. Gabriel School from Google Expeditions. Google will bring their free Google Expeditions program to St. Gabriel for one day, tomorrow, Monday, April 16. Many teachers will be receiving training first in the morning then joining in these activities and guiding their classes through the day using our new devices. The kids are so excited! In fact a few teachers are letting the students be a little in the driver's seat with their extra tech savvy! Google Expeditions is an augmented reality classroom experience for students in Grades 2-8. Google bringing all the equipment we will need and also supplies the expeditions and lessons that we can experience on that day. The equipment includes a smartphone, a selfie stick, and the google expedition images. Thank you so much to Joyce Gravagna and Christine Horne for all their work in writing the grant that enabled us to get these actual AR devices. And thank you to all the teachers who will be joining and learning the new opportunities this will provide for our students. A reminder that this is the week when our Performing Arts group, after practices and rehearsals directed and guided by Mrs. Karpuszka over the last 4 months culminates in an awesome presentation of acting, singing, designing, building and adding their creative style, knowledge, technology and great team work to the annual St. Gabriel Musical! Come see them perform and entertain you in their production of "Honk"! Looking to so many enjoyable busy days ahead, Peace and blessings,
