The Wildcat THE WILDCAT November Successes at Wamsley Encourage it Your students set goals to monitor their learning and growth in Reading and Math. As a school, we are encouraging our students to share in the spirit of giving by earning money so they can purchase a small gift for the children in Children s Hospital in Denver. School spirit is alive and thriving here at Wamsley! Kids are excited about showing off their spirit in their Wamsley shirts while enjoying popcorn. Friendships abound as grade levels buddy up for the movie field trip. Ask your child about their new buddy from a different grade level. The Wildcat SmartPhone Use & Cyberbullying Getting a cellphone has become a milestone for most kids. Common Sense helps parents lay the groundwork for responsible cellphone use and manage the challenges and opportunities they bring. Learn how to decide the right age to get your kid a cellphone, set rules, choose the right phone and service plan, and stay on top of what your kid is doing on his or her phone. The link below has several short, informative videos with information about cellphone parenting and cyberbullying. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/cellphoneparenting -Adapted from https://www.commonsensemedia.org. Common Sense is the nation's leading independent non-profit organization dedicated to empowering kids to thrive in a world of media and technology. Art In Art, we have just finished our unit on Native American Art. 5th graders have been weaving on a loom, 4th grade made pastel native war horses, 3rd graders made giant totem pole animals out of paper, 2nd grade created Kachina doll sun sand paintings, 1st graders painted Kokopellis, and Kinder made clay pinch pots. Now, we are busy making some beautiful holiday art to share with you at the Wamsley Winter Wonderland Art show! Sure hope to see you there! P.E. Hello Wamsley families! Students have begun their unit in basketball and are working hard to master dribbling, shooting and passing. From Kindergarten all the way to 5th grade, students are working on some element of basketball and ball handling skills. We will also begin talking about the importance of staying hydrated in this unit. Please continue to support your Wildcats by encouraging them to get outside and play for 60 minutes a day and keep hydrated! Keep up the amazing work! Preschool Hello Wamsley Preschool Families! What a busy time of year! We have covered letters A through J, and numbers 1 through 14! We have been learning through play, which is what we do best. We hope to see you at the Winter Wonderland, where Preschool will be singing! 2 Garfield RE-2 School District s vision is to encourage, nurture and challenge every student, every day.

The Wildcat Kindergarten We have been working hard in kindergarten! Our superkid friends have helped us learn the letters c,o,g,a,s,d,i,t and l. Your kinder has been working hard to learn how to read and can read words with the letters the superkids have taught us. In kinder our goal is to count to 100 by the end of the year, and everyday your kinder is getting closer and closer to 100. We hope you and your kinder are enjoying reading together with the Raising a Reader bags, just a reminder that they are due every Tuesday. Also, folders are going home everyday, please be sure to check their folders and send it back everyday. We are so proud of how much success your kinder has had so far this year! 1st Grade This month in math, first graders will continue to work on demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction by knowing facts within 10. The Wildcat 3rd Grade Happy winter third grade families! We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! While the temperature is dropping outside, we are keeping things going full steam in third grade. Our days are becoming colder and colder. In math this month your children have been working hard on adding and subtracting and rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. They have become experts at understanding place value to help them with both of these skills. They soon will be learning the skill of telling time to the nearest minute. In social studies we have continued our Civics Unit. We have been learning about the roles and responsibilities of our three branches of government at a local and federal level. We have also been learning about civil discourse, which means that we are respectful to people who have different views than our own and share our ideas in a respectful way. We are beginning to learn about rights and responsibilities and will continue learning about this for the rest of our Civics Unit. In science, students have continued learning about the three main states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. They are able to tell the differences between the three and will soon learn about adding or removing heat in order to understand how matter changes. Have a great December everyone! 4th Grade Happy December fourth grade families! The second quarter has been filled with fun learning opportunities. From science experiments to creating tale tales, the fourth graders have been busy. In Math, they have been working hard to become fluent in multiplication and are practicing division. In Science, we have been investigating different forms of energy and analyzing energy transformations. In Social Studies, students are examining the lives of explorers and mountain men in Colorado. We also have some exciting events coming up. Sunlight Mountain resort came to talk to students about mountain safety, in preparation for our skiing and snowboarding field trip in February. Look for permission slips for this field trip coming home soon. Have a great December! 5th Grade We sure hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday, we do have a lot to be thankful for. Such a great school and lots of learning taking place! In Math the students have been working on adding and subtracting decimals. Ask your child about the three different regions and what was special about the people, geography, economy and climate of each region.
