Page 1 Newsletter 1st November 2018 Issue 2018-33 Acting Principal: Jan Smith Enquiries: 9773 2055 Argyle Avenue Chelsea Vic 3196 Web: www.chelseaps.vic.edu.au Melways Reference: 97 C2 News from the Acting Principal By Jan Smith WHAT S IN THE BOX? Last week a huge box arrived in our foyer. I asked some students what they thought might be inside? Augie said, It s a big box of paper! Ngok said, It s a box of toys! Jack said, It s lots of counting things for maths! Ayla said, It s lots of books for reading! Well these were all fabulous ideas BUT inside is our actually our new 3D printer that will be used in our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) specialist classes next year. How exciting! KOREAN DAY Tuesday s Korean Day was a wonderful cultural event enjoyed by students, parents, staff and our very special visitors. Our school was ablaze in Korean colours and traditional costumes. Dancing, cooking, Taekwondo exhibition, drumming, traditional songs and a live web cam cross to our sister school in Korea all contributed to a fun filled day. Thank you to Mrs Park for organising such an amazing day which showcased the students talents and love of the Korean culture and language. Page 2 OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY Today our students celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day. Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. By getting involved in the annual celebrations, you help send a message to the world that time outdoors every day is important for every child. Our Year 3-6 students enjoyed a walk to Chelsea Beach to help tidy and beautify the shore line and back at school our Juniors enjoyed a range of reading, mathematics, performance and active activities around the school. What a great way to enjoy learning outdoors! HEADLICE CHECKS Head lice will be a problem from time to time at Chelsea Primary School and it is important to work together as a school community to minimise the frustration caused by the problem. Over the next few weeks our school nurses will check students hair and notify families if head lice are discovered. Information pamphlets about treatment and controlling head lice are available from the school office or the link below. http://docs.health.vic.gov.au/docs/doc/088e58959ddc091aca2579b800202afa/$file/headlicepam.pdf Our head lice nurses are happy to discuss how to identify and treat head lice with parents. Please speak to Miss Jacky at the office to arrange a convenient time. We thank you for your support in helping to minimise these pesky critters! 2019 ORGANISATION Planning for 2019 is already taking place and it is very important to have an accurate picture of student movement for the upcoming year as this has a huge impact on planning for the number of classes we have. Please contact the office by phone or email if you are transferring. WE NEED YOUR INPUT At our next Friends of Chelsea meeting on Tuesday 13th November at 2:30, Guy Riley from The Packed Lunch Guy will be coming to speak to parents about his school lunch business. We would like lots of parents to be involved in the decision making about choices for lunch options in 2019. Come and be part of this possible new venture. If you would like to hear more, please ring or call in to the Office to register your attendance. In the meantime, you can check out what Guy has to offer on: www.packedlunchguy.com.au A tasty afternoon tea will be provided! GREENING OUR SCHOOL Thank you to all of our families that have donated to the Greening Our School project. The trees are looking fantastic and we are looking forward to more projects around the school, all thanks to the community s generous donations. We are now moving onto the planning phase of having a plaque made. Due to this, the cut off to donate $50 and have your name on the plaque is Friday 9 th November 2018. We will keep the page open for anyone who wishes to donate after this time. Once we have the list of the families that will have their name on the plaque, we will be sending a letter home to confirm exactly the name they would like on there. There will be a tear off return slip to be submitted to the office. We shall keep you posted on the date the plaque will be installed, and hope to have a little ceremony to go with it! Many thanks Grounds and Maintenance Sub Committee

Page 3 SCHOOL HATS Just a reminder for parents/careers & students to bring your hat to school. As outlined in our Sunsmart policy, from 1st of September students are expected to wear their hats during play and lunch time and outdoor sporting activities. Please dig those hats out, dust them off and ensure they are named. Students not wearing hats will be asked to play under the gazebo or shaded junior playground. We appreciate families supporting our Sunsmart practices at Chelsea Primary. MEDIA LEADER ARTICLE By Dane and Jake Last Friday was Teacher Appreciation Day, where we commemorated the importance of our educators with the Teachers of the Week awards. Thank you for making learning fun. FROM THE SPORTS DESK NATIONALS Congratulations Noa! Noa came 3rd in the 1500 metre State Athletics Championship and will now go on to represent CPS at Nationals.
