VICE CHANCELLOR University of Hawaii at Manoa August 2006-February 2015 The Vice Chancellor for Students served as the chief Student Affairs Officer for the campus. He reported directly to the Chancellor and advises on all student-related issues. He conducted studies, analyses, and consultations to provided timely information and advice on issues related to student life and wellness, retention and graduation, student development, student special services, and enrollment management. He represented the Chancellor and the campus to the University of Hawaii system administration, University of Hawaii Foundation, community agencies, the Hawaii State Legislature, the student governments and the Board of Regents. Provided input to the campus strategic plan regarding issues of student life. He served on committees and task forces as assigned including the Management Executive Team, Chancellor s staff, Committee on Enrollment Planning, and the WASC Accreditation Steering Committee. He served on various committees and task forces for the University of Hawaii System including the Chief Student Affairs Officers, BANNER Advisory Committee, Distance Learning Advisory Committee, and the P-20 College Access Steering Committee. He oversaw the University Health Services, Student Housing Services, Student Life and Development, Campus Center, Student Leadership and Development, Food Services, Counseling Center, Manoa Career Center, Offices of Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, School and College Services, Student Judicial Affairs, Women s Center, LGBTI Student Services, Center for Gifted and Talented Native Hawaiian Students, Office of Multicultural Student Services, Manoa GEAR UP, College Opportunities Program, Bridge to Hope, University Children s Center, KOKUA Program (Disability Access Services), and Kua ana-native Hawaiian Student Development Services. He oversaw the $140 million budget for the construction and renovation of the residential halls and the campus center and student life facilities. Completed an 800-bed residential hall and renovation of 2000 beds, Also oversaw the development of a new student recreational center and the renovation of the student campus center.

Special Assignment as of September, 2006 Developed and oversaw a project to provide online academic support services to high school students. These services include online high school courses plus cyber-mentoring and tutoring, Currently the project provides free online math, science and writing tutoring using University of Hawaii at Manoa students as tutors for Hawaii high school students. VICE CHANCELLOR-University of California, Santa Cruz July 1994 July 2006. Served as the chief Student Affairs Officer for the campus. He was a member of the Chancellor s Executive Management Team, with shared responsibility for providing campus wide operational leadership and direction; advised the Chancellor and Executive Vice Chancellor; provided oversight of programs which emanated from the Office of the President; advised on campus issues arising from the Legislature, Federal, State, and local government agencies, alumni, students, parents, and the media and require Chancellor level action; represented the Chancellor and the campus at public and community activities; conducted policy studies and analyses, and reports on issues pertaining to the quality of student life. Provided leadership on development of a strategic plan for student affairs; creation of an academic information system; development of an educational outreach plan; development of a housing plan; and improvement of recruitment, enrollment and graduation of UC Santa Cruz students. Developed a fund-raising plan for Student Affairs. Responsible for a divisional budget of $140 million and staff FTE of 700. The Vice Chancellor had oversight for the offices of Student Health Center, Counseling Center, Career Center, Academic Resource Center, Student Organizations and Advising Resources, Student Union, Campus Bookstore, Student Judicial Office, Women s Center, GLBT Center, Ethnic Resource Centers, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Educational Partnership Center,, Physical Education, Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramural Sports, Academic Information System, Housing, Dining and Childcare Services. Oversaw the $250 million budget for the construction and renovation of the residential colleges. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT: July 1999-July 2006 Executive Director- University of California College Prep Initiative-Created a program to offer college preparatory courses and academic support activities online to California high school students. Budget of $4 million and staff FTE of 15.

Supervision of three student service areas: student advising services, career and graduate school services, and student activities. Supervision of special grants projects to provide services to low-income students. Advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Affairs on issues related to student life, student diversity, student retention and other timely projects. Act as liaison with academic programs. Chair select committees for the campus or division, including Smooth Transition and Divisional Computing. DEAN OF STUDENT LIFE-University of California, Berkeley July 1989 to July 1993. Responsible for improving the quality of student life on the Berkeley campus. Supervision of the Offices of Student Activities and Services, the Multicultural Action Team, the Women's Resource Center, the Academic Achievement Division, Student Life Advising Services, Career Planning and Placement, Pre- Professional and Pre-Graduate Advising and the Office of Student Conduct. Advisor to Vice Chancellor of Undergraduate Affairs on issues related to student life, minority student retention and other selected projects. Assessed the need for new programs to improve student life. Acted as liaison with academic programs, co-curricular programs, and campus officials to maintain communication about student issues.
