(2018-20) under Faculty Council (Arts etc.) (A) The following persons are eligible to seek admission to M. Phil. Programme: (1) Candidates holding the Master s Degree of The University of Burdwan or a professional degree considered to be equivalent to the Master s Degree of The University of Burdwan in the subject concerned or allied/relevant subject, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade B in the UGC-7 point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, may apply to the concerned Secretary of the Faculty Council for Postgraduate Studies concerned in the prescribed form for admission to the M. Phil. Programme in any of the subjects in which the M. Phil. Degree may have been instituted. (2) A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/Differently Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time or for those who had obtained their Master s degree prior to 19th September 1991. (3) The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualification marks without including the grace mark procedures. (B) Procedure for admission: (1) Written Entrance Test: For getting admission to the M. Phil. Programme, a candidate shall have to appear for the written test of 100 marks with 50 questions of 2 marks each in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) model on OMR sheet. Candidates will be allowed to retain the carbon copy of the OMR sheet with them after the completion of the examination. Each candidate is to secure a minimum qualifying marks of 50% in the Written Entrance Test to qualify for the viva-voce. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall cover two sections, viz, research methodology and the specific subject with 25 questions each from the two sections. (2) Exemption from Written Test: Candidates who have qualified in the UGC-NET (including JRF)/ SET/SLET or Teacher Fellowship shall be exempted from appearing at the Entrance Test for admission to the M. Phil. Programme. (3) Interview: After qualifying in the Written Test or getting exemption from it, each candidate shall have to appear at the interview to be conducted by the University. Page 1 of 3

(E) Documents to be enclosed with the forms: Candidates must enclose with the form self attested photo-copies of age proof, mark sheets of all the public examinations passed by them up to the Post Graduate level along with two self attested copies of recent stamp size photographs and S.C.*/S.T.*/ OBC**/DA certificate, if any, by the last date of submission of application form. (F) Issue of Admit Card: The applicants will be required to collect Admit Cards from the Office of the concerned Faculty Council at the time of submitting the application forms. Relevant Certificate must conform to West Bengal Govt. Memo No. 1813-BCW/MR-94/11 dated 20 th June, 2001 and memo no.: 746-L dated 30.04.2013. Candidates claiming reservation against SC/ST quota of seats must submit relevant caste certificates issued in their favour by one of the authorities listed below: Page 2 of 3

(i) Deputy Collector of Land Revenue, Kolkata, Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, 1 st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Sub- Divisional Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, Deputy Collector, Addl. District Magistrate, Collector and District magistrate within their respective jurisdictions in case of candidates claiming to be Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe and ordinarily residing within such jurisdictions. ** For OBC A/ OBC-B Candidates (ii) Deputy Director, Backward Classes Welfare, West Bengal and Commissioner, Backward Classes Welfare, West Bengal in the case of candidates claiming to be Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe residing in any part of W.B. (iii) Instruction for D. A. candidates: The Certificate must be live and issued by an appropriate authority not below the rank of Superintendent of Sub-Divisional Hospital. In the certificate, the extent of Physical Disability must not be below 40%. Candidates who claim reservation against such quota must also personally appear with all the supporting documents in original before the Medical Board on 20.08.2018 at 12 noon at the Office Chamber of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts etc.), 3rd Floor, Composite Arts Building, Golapbag, B.U. for determining their eligibility of admission in this quota. The hearing impaired candidates shall have to produce current audiometric report. The D.A. candidates are advised to follow the vacancy position before appearing at the medical board.
