First day of Jamboard Group guide

We know it can be difficult learning in isolation, so we ve created this guide to help you learn with, and from, other teachers in your school who want to make the most of Google Jamboard this year. To get started, form a group of 4-6 teachers who are eager to get started with Jamboard.

Pre-work

Choose the platform(s) you will use to access Jamboard 1 Jamboard Kiosk The 55" 4k display (as shown in diagram) 2 Jamboard Tablet App 3 Jamboard Mobile App 4 Jamboard Web Download the Jamboard App from the Play Store to a compatabile Chromebook or from the App Store to an ipad Download the Tablet App from the Google Play store to a Chromebook or from the Apple App Store to an ipad Visit jamboard.google.com

Let s get started

Group Activity 1 In this activity you will create a Jamboard file as a group. 1 Create a new jam file Within your group, appoint one Jamboard owner for your study group. 2 Add collaborators Have the owner create a new Jamboard file from the Jamboard, Jamboard Android or ios Tablet App or from the web at jamboard.google.com. Add the other group members of the study group as collaborators. Have everyone open the file, so all group members can collaborate on the same file. Group discussion Capture the steps you took to create and setup your first Jamboard file.

Group Activity 2 In this activity you will start to navigate and use the drawing options on Jamboard. 1 Within your group s Jamboard file, create a frame for each member of the team Tap the frame bar at the top of the jam file to see thumbnails of your pages. Tap the green + to add frames. 2 Explore the drawing tools: Explore the different pen and erase tools available on the drawing menu. Identify how to change the pen color. Create sample text with each of the pen and marker options. 3 Change the background of your Jamboard frame Tap the Frame bar to see thumbnails of your pages. Tap the striped box in the lower right. Tap a background pattern to select it for the current page. Tap Apply to all to set the backgrounds of all pages in the current jam. Group discussion Discuss what classroom uses for the different pens and markers might be.

Group Activity 3 In this activity you will explore the intelligent features of Jamboard. In your frame, explore the following tools: 1 Handwriting recognition 2 Shape recognition From the drawing tools, select the handwriting recognition option and start to write a note. From the drawing tools, select the shape recognition option and start to draw a shape. 3 AutoDraw From the drawing tools, select the autodraw (magic wand) option, and draw a picture. Did Jamboard suggest an alternative? Group discussion How might the intelligence features be useful in your lessons and learning projects?

Group Activity 4 In this activity you will explore the sticky note on Jamboard files. Create a new frame on your jam. 1 Create and explore text note Add a text note to your jam. Double-tap a note to edit the text or change the color. 2 Duplicate the text note To duplicate a note, touch and hold the note and then in the top-right corner tap Copy. Group discussion How might the sticky notes feature be useful in your classrooms?

Group Activity 5 In this activity you will start to add web and image content into your Jamboard. Create a new frame on your jam. 1 Add web content to your Jamboard Tap the web icon, and search for a topic. Navigate to the content you want to use. Tap crop and select the information you want to use in your Jamboard. Tap enter. This adds the selected information to your jam. 2 Add images to your Jamboard Tap the search Image icon. Search for a topic. Drag the image into your Jamboard, and resize using a two finger pinch. Group discussion How might the web and image search options be useful in your classrooms and learning projects? Note: Both web and image search use safe search and royalty free content.

Group Activity 6 In this activity you will explore adding Drive files to your Jamboard. Each group member should complete this activity individually. 1 Add drive files to your Jamboard You can add a file from Drive on the phone or tablet app only (not from board). Tap the Drive icon. Navigate to the file you want, and tap the file to add. 2 Working with multi-page files If the file you added has multiple pages, you can double tap the file once added to expand the view and drag individual pages onto the frame. You can use a two finger pinch to enlarge, rotate and resize the file on your jamboard. Group discussion How might the drive features be useful in your lessons?

Group Activity 7 In this activity you will explore the different ways to share your Jamboard files. Each group member should complete this activity individually. 1 Share a view only copy of the file Tap add people, select the person you want to share with, and select can view. 2 Share a PDF or PNG of the file Tap share Jam as PDF. Or tap share this frame as an image. Group discussion What sharing options will be most useful in your classes?

Group Activity 8 In this activity you will explore assigning Jamboard files using Google Classroom. Each group member should complete this activity individually. 1 2 Open Google Classroom (classroom.google.com), and create a test Class. Tap the +Create button on the Classwork page, and create a new assignment. 3 Select the Drive icon, and find the Jam file you want to assign to your students. 4 Fill out the rest of the Classroom assignment details and click assign. Group discussion What sharing options will be most useful in your classes?

Group Activity 9 1 2 As a group, design a lesson plan that incorporates Jamboard. Use the sample edu activities guide for inspiration.
